Post subject:  10000 post reflections

My 10000 post so i would like to use this as a moment of reflection not just for me but all on here and come on even the occasional posters can come in on this. The rules are your first post must be an answer to the questions posed. And all future posts must be emoticon only lets make this a challenge !

the questions are

1) what is the single most aspect of this trade that riles you the most ?
2) what is the one aspect of this trade that makes the daily grind worth it ?
3) what is the one legal/regulatory change that would improve your work life the most ?

for me no 1 is the huge numbers of people who think that slashing fares and vying to be the cheapest is being a clever businessman because it ain't the clever businessman is the one that can achieve a balance that is comfortably profitable without being greedy

no 2 for me is the regular customers who use you week in and week out and appreciate the service you give

no3 for me is a level playing field it is grossly unfair that one district restricts numbers but their neighbours don't and are flooded with PH who want to become hackney there; and that fees are massively different between districts I would like to see the licensing of taxis taken away from district councils and a national body with national standards and fees for testing and licensing homogenised and set quotas for Hackneys imposed nationwide. The councils could then concentrate purely on enforcement which with NO tie to revenue would be far less hit and miss and might actually improve standards

It would be nice if 20 or 30 members replied to this rather than the usual half a dozen so come on guys and gals

No 3. This definitely would not work.
Councils left to enforce only, result no enforcement whatsoever, reason we have no money to pay for it.

Customers....

2) what is the one aspect of this trade that makes the daily grind worth it ?

Cash

3) what is the one legal/regulatory change that would improve your work life the most ?

Common sense - and only local plated vehicles to work off any base, regardless of PH/HC regs, and some fecking compliance checks by our 9-5 office based LA

Spiv operators.

The freedom to work when you want for as long as you want.

Not sure it would improve my life, and quite certain it would have a negative effect on many others lives, but getting rid of the section 16 (of the 1985 Transport Act) restrictions would be a nice way to allow drivers to have taxis rather than many of them being forced to work with Uber, or with those in my answer to edders Q1.

Do you think that getting rid of section 16 would make a difference, most of the licenses issued already do not work as TAXIS but on a private hire operators circuit paying £1OO + for doing so,they will never be a TAXI nor would they Know how to work one.
