My son is not a happy fella today.
On Monday he noticed that on of his dogs was not well. very lethargic and was sick. Couldn't even keep water down. He took the dog to the same vets that he has used for various pets for the last 12 years. They said that they needed to x-ray the dog and do some other checks and charged him around £500 for this. The dog was very poorly so they put him on a drip and my son had to take the dog to another vets in Nottingham for an overnight stay to keep an eye in him. This cost another £130. Yesterday they decided that they needed to operate to find out what the problem was and they found that the dog had swallowed a sock. So they removed the sock and my son took the dog home for the nught and then back again this morning to get some pain relief for the dog and get the dressing looked at. The receptionist told him that she had received a warning from the owner of the practice for allowing him to take the dog home without paying for the treatment, even though the treatment was not finished. She had been told that not pain relief would be given until the bill had been paid in full, another £1850. My son explained that the money was being transferred from my dads bank and would be with them in around 4-5 hours. They still refused to give the dog any pain relief until the money had been received.
I can't believe that they would let the dog suffer like that for the sake of waiting for the money to clear in their account. It turns out from reading all the comments on various social media sites that the owner does this a l lot. and they are loosing customers very quickly because of it.
I think they should be closed down.
Any views?
Oh and my son has already changed to a new vets.

we have gone from 1 to 4 veterinary surgeries in the town in 20 years and they all know how to charge big time according to many of our customers but I have not heard of them letting a dog suffer whilst demanding money .

I think you should consult the RSPCA because that sounds like unethical practice to me

I know some of the local ones are good at persuading animal owners to get extra tests such as an ECG which are probably unnecessary and the classic putting the pet on a special diet which can only be supplied by them :roll: but plenty of customers of mine pay vets bills in installments so sounds like this receptionist might be on an incentive to get money in :wink:

ANY vet that allows an animal to suffer for any reason is a disgrace and should be struck off.

Agree with Sussex on this one,I would even report it to the Police,they have demanded money with menace,although it was an outstanding amount for treatment not completed.

He is trying to get the persons full name.
However it is not the vet or the nurse or the receptionist that is the problem. It is the owner of the practice who instructed the staff to act in this way. My son tried to speak to her yesterday but she wouldn't talk to him and he was just told to write in with any issues.
I am about to search company's house to see if I can find any information.

My son reported the incident to the relevant bodies as stated above on Thursday.
Now it could just be a coincidence but the person who denied the pain killers until payment had been cleared actually reng my son yesterday, Not to apologise but to explain their pay immediately policy.
My son asked if the practice also worked with farm animals to which the reply was yes. He said "I thought so because I can smell bullshit." and he hung up.

a vet foooked about on the phone at 2am to me while my dog had a seizure for an hour and died having convulsions, the vet was 10 minutes away, but he was quick enough next morning to collect her and drop off his £90 bill

Local facebook pages have been full of it this week and yesterday they manaaged to upset a whole lot more people when one of their regular customers took in a cat that had just been hit by a car, It wasn't the customers own cat so they turned it away.
I heard that there was going to be a protest outside the practice one day this week and the press will be invited.
