yes I did notice but didn't consider it a joke thought it was an homage  the writing of the current "endeavour" series is a bit weak in my opinion the original Morse were very good but these seem very "Americanised" with a high body count and loads of stereotyping If this was to be believed oxford had a higher murder rate in the 60's than Manchester,Nottingham and liverpool together in the 90's
