A mate of mine uses this mob http://www.taxipay.net/index.html Not sure how good it is, or the price/% it charges, but the bit I like is you use your mobile phone, not a seperate machine.

Hi Guy's This is how this works, they give a machine so you can take cards in the car, this is great in theory but they have not launched chip & pin ones yet, well not to my knowledge, there is absolutly no point in this type of in car credit card system as it subsequently needs to be downloaded by telephone. When I looked at this system last year the two main things that put me off were you can not take the payment tere and then, so you still do not know if it will be accepted or indeed is a stolen or fraudulent card and secondly ALL THE MONEY GOES INTO SILVERCABS BANK ACCOUNT B4 IT GOES INTO YOURS
75% of my work is by credit/debit card, would you give someone you did not know the opertunity to have this much of your turnover go into their account B4 it goes into yours, I do not think so. This is great for hacks working on their own who do not take very many cards, however if I was in that position and were using this I would not advertise it as punters will pay by crd if they can even if it does mean paying extra, then all of a sudden you have no cash work and are having to wait 2 weeks for this company to send your money minus of course any cards that failed.
Kind regards Eric

I used sivercab for a twelve month trial period. You get a remote terminal with a built in mobile phone, so it calls up for authorisation. It does take a couple of minutes to process. In twelve months, it declined one card, the punter then paid cash. I had no problems with the system at all. The reason I discontinued was poor take up of the service. £30 or so a month, and only used once or twice a week, with fares I would have got anyway. Now, as with other drivers, I go via a cashpoint. May have been the commision charges, that put people off using it. |

hummmmmmmm
Real time autherisation
They never had that last time I looked at this
30 quid was not the cost either it was calculated on a % of turnover
possibly they do a different deal for operators than single drivers as I would certainly been paying more than 30 quid a month however I have other drivers maybe that is where the difference is, but they still put the money in their own bank account b4 it gets to yours which for me was the biggest risk. regards eric
