Not sure if this is just local or national policy but been told today can only use a maximum of 5 pound coins to pay for fuel rest must be notes

Morrison's staff say they may be adopting a similar policy but not at the moment

anybody else been told this or is it just local

They would rather take payment by debit or credit card.

If they are accepting cash then would it not be illegal to refuse legal tender coin or notes.

Can't recall the last time I tried to (or even felt the need to) pay for fuel using pound coins. If I have excess shrapnel I want to get rid of then I stick it in the self-service tills at the supermarkets. Which I've also used occasionally if I'm short of change (eg if short of fivers put some small items through separately and pay for each with a tenner).

By the way, thought you were banned from Morrison's after the incident with *that* woman?

And weren't you due to lose your badge over it? 8-[

Nope.

Clearly sometimes businesses forget who the customer is.

If you want to buy something in a shop, or pay a bill, you have to agree to pay legal tender. Coins are legal tender throughout the UK for the following amount:

1p – for any amount up to 20p
2p – for any amount up to 20p
5p – for any amount up to £5
10p – for any amount up to £5
20p – for any amount up to £10
25p (Crown) – for any amount up to £10
50p – for any amount up to £10
Larger denominations can be used to buy or pay for value of any amount:

£1 – for any amount
£2 – for any amount
£5 (Crown) – for any amount
£20 – for any amount
£50 – for any amount
£100 – for any amount
…yes, there is a £100 coin, but not a £10 coin.

The woman involved wasn't prepared to put pen to paper so to speak as long as she could have got me sacked anonymously the thing was that i didn't do anything wrong other than pick my money bag up out of the car and she reacted very strangely

I suspect had this gone further she would have been the one losing her job

basically it is down to staff not wanting to have to count them but they can legally do this as a Company initiative

What would they do if I put £30.00 worth of fuel in my car and gave them 30 £1.00 coins and said that I did not have any notes?

If they are refusing legal tender I think you can walk out without paying. As long as you've got means of payment on you they can't do anything.

If they do make it where you can only use 5 x £1 per transaction then put £5 in and pay by using 5 x £1 coins then go back out and repeat as many times it takes to fill your car up. Then when paying for the last transaction, píss all over the counter.
