Hey just started back as a taxi driver this year having previously done it a long time ago... back when we used the radio before pda system came into play. Just visited the accountant today and along with my own accounts requested my pda's year printout to see if my numbers match up with the jobs... i have been declaring exactly what i've made but got me wondering how other drivers that decide to get a little creative have done so... and how risky it is as i've heard of a few cab offices getting a visit for audits. |

I clear mine at the end of every shift. |

yeah i thought it would be retained for audits and such, so how do some drivers feel safe to not declare everything ? surely this information that is stored will point to difference in incomings. |

I think your accountant is being over zealous. We are a limited company and our accountant doesn't ask for any proof of what the drivers have earned, That is the drivers who are on the books and the VAT inspector didn't ask for any evidence to support what we said the drivers earned. |

HMRC will if they ever drop on you. |

Where I used to work in New Romney there was only one h/c, the rest were p/h all one-man firms. Talking to the h/c driver one evening he told me he had a bill of so-many thousands in tax. I told him he was working too much. The next night I asked him roughly how miles a year he done, running costs etc, tyre costs. i put those through my spreadsheet and found that if he'd done 10,000 miles a year less, he'd be better off by about £5k by making less profit, therefore less tax! Most jobs he was doing weren't even covering their cost. |
