of the people who frequent this site all over the UK. I am interested in how many Councils ask for Private Hire and Hackney Vehicles to be road tested as part of the P/Hire and Hackney Test. I would be so grateful for the information

No road test in Doncaster, but isn't there an issue with drivers without a Hackney/Private Hire badge being allowed to drive a plated vehicle ? |

Qualified mechanic is allowed to road test a TAXI(hackney carriage) without being a licensed driver, private hire vehicle to be road tested must be driven by a private hire driver license holder. |

Ours have a meter and brake test (even though they've just been checked on a rolling road) round the testing depot. They used to do them on the public highway until the issue with licence holders only driving licenced vehicles came up. One of the testers was going to be given a ph/hc licence, but once it was pointed out that they would have to have a DBS + exploitation course + NVQ + pass the councils knowledge test (as per the councils own rules NO EXCEPTION) and that they would have to pay for all this themselves - they decided not to apply. |

Transport Act 1985 Schedule 7-3 makes it abundantly clear who and when a TAXI(hackney carriage) can be driven by someone who does not hold a TAXI(hackney carriage) drivers license, this exclusion only applies in two scenarios. |
