How the hell do people manage to have an accident on a motorway FFS, they're straight roads with no junctions? Yesterday on the M25 and the M1 I saw three RTA's all on these so called smart motorways. WTF is happening with people and these smart motorways?

The usual problem is because they are straight roads. Drivers lose concentration, fall asleep or use their phones.

or drive too close to the car in front

the more crowded the motorways get the more frequent the accidents but they are statistically a safer road

People overtaking, foreign lorry drivers (often pi**ed), people on phone, tired people, and just plain old stupid people.

Going too slow is a cause, lane hogging, too many roadworks. Personally I find it boring driving through roadworks for mile after mile on the M20.

The M20 currently has a 50 from junction 9 through to 10, about 3 miles @ 50; then a week or so that continued right past 9 towards 8, a total of 11 miles at 50, then a short break before we hit the next 50 at Maidstone through to Wrotham Hill, another 9 miles at 50.

This morning the M20 closed both ways around Maidstone by crashes on both carriageways causing gridlock in Kent right across to the M2 ad A21. This stuid country is impossible to live in.

And all those regular M20 delays before we get to the usual 8 mile queue to the Dartford Tunnel. One of my regular runs going to drive buses at South Mimms on the M25/A1 junction, 84 miles for home can take 1hr 15 at legal speeds, but has often taken over 3 hours in the recent past.

probably the A1 but like 90 percent of drivers can't UNDERSTAND the difference between a motorway and a busy dual carriageway

Could have been a tractor that pulls a 40 tonne trailer. 90km'h speed limiter fitted. :)
