We have Huge poppies, Paper Poppies, Knitted wooly poppies, etc by the the thousands here....someones really making the effort as they always do here. Though I must admit I do like the simple elegance of the Tommy with bowed head, it says more than words ever could. It's hard to believe that those past generations who gave so much for our freedoms from far off the threats were the ancestors of todays modern youth, a youth so brainwashed by social engineering at that they now feel embarrassed to be British and somewhat guilty that we even fought in earlier wars that gave them their present freedoms. |

Managing director Trevor Hines said: “We have displayed poppies on our vehicles for a number of years. We felt that with this year being the centenary of Armistice day, that we should do something special to commemorate the fallen who lost their lives in the First World War.” "We hope that the taxi will encourage people to go and buy a poppy ahead of this year’s Remembrance Day and actively engage with the Royal British Legion’s campaign.” Peter Milne, community fundraiser for the Royal British Legion in Sunderland, said: “The Royal British Legion would like to thank Station Taxis for this wonderful show of support. Remembrance Sunday is always a very important day for the armed forces community and this will be greatly appreciated by them. “The work of the legion is as relevant and vital today as it was in the aftermath of the First World War when the charity was founded. Donations during this poppy appeal will help the legion support today’s armed forces community through hardships, injury and bereavements. “Generations of the armed forces have continued to serve and sacrifice since the First World War, and we recognise and thank them all for their contribution.” |

Whitley Bay taxi firm EastCoast says it will take veterans to Remembrance Day service for free https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-o ... t-15347328 EastCoast Taxis says armed forces veterans who don't have transport can get complimentary trips to Whitley Bay's Remembrance Day service A North Tyneside taxi firm is offering to give armed forces veterans free transport to Whitley Bay's Remembrance Day service. EastCoast Taxis says it has a limited number of free seats for veterans living in the Whitley Bay and Tynemouth area who want to pay their respects on the 100th anniversary of the First World War ending. The taxis will take them to and from the Remembrance Day service at The Links, which starts at 3pm on Sunday, November 11, 2018.  The Whitley Bay Remembrance Sunday parade (Image: Chronicle Live) The idea came about after EastCoast, having supported the Northumbria World War One Project, realised it can be difficult for veterans to get to the ceremony. EastCoast's Sarah Clarence, had a discussion with keen historian and EastCoast Tours driver Alan Fidler who founded the World War One Project, and the plan came together. Sarah from EastCoast said: "I know how passionate Alan is about First World War history as he established the Northumbria World War One Commemoration Project and we thought that - as this is 100 years Anniversary since the end of World War One - as many people as possible should attend the Remembrance service. "Sadly, we realised that not everyone is in a position to jump into a car or walk to the nearest place to pay their respects so as we have a large fleet of taxis, we decided to do what we could to help." You can go around towns and cities and see their war memorials and think very little of them but if you go to this place and walk around the whole site it gives you a proper perspective of what a sacrifice these people made for us. |
