Just got a newbie who just started working the ranks
his fairly new to the area has passed the knowledge but doesn't know some areas/ roads especially with all the new estates.
Normally hell type into the satnav and take shortest route but if cant hell ask which area and once in area ask passenger for directions.
what do you guys think about this?
how would you feel as a passenger if driver asked such questions as didnt know the area well?

Nothing wrong in asking for directions, only a fool knows everything, or at least they think they do, It also makes the punter feel a tad better when asked for their advice and will save them money too.

Most punters i pick up get a little annoyed whenever i have asked so i never bother especially when picking up from the station most like to just relax not have to be giving directions,
I only ever ask if theirs many routes and just ask what route never actual directions to which way to go, left here, right their etc

If he is new, and if he isn't sure, customers would expect him to ask.

It's how you ask.

Don't say 'I don't know where you mean', do say 'which way would you prefer me to take'.

Some will say 'you are the driver', but most will be more than happy to assist. It's their money after all.

I have lived here most of my life and sometimes I forget where a particular road is. I have never had a problem asking.

Asking for directions is not a sin,it is no different to looking in an A to Z. It can be helpful to call into local estate agents who will give you a map of new estates roads which are not always name posted until the estate is finished and roads adopted by L/A.

I wouldn't mind if someone asked me if I was the passenger.

In all fairness most customers are happy you can understand them.

The destination is of lesser concern.

I’d rather someone ask than take me the wrong route/place.
