Where my wife works [MOD] for health and safety reasons she is not allowed to pick up items of weight of 5 kilo or over How do we stand, when by law we have to give assistance, eg, student with large case full of books, could you be finished as a taxi driver if you can't lift |

Once again it boils down to common sense, which would seem to be a short commodity in your part of the world,if the student is able to lift the case to the taxi then you should be capable of lifting it also, and are not books usually in libraries at the university? that is ifindeed books are still used |

If a particular job looks iffy, then don't do it. Your council should support you if the customer complains, but most don't because they are all pen pushers who haven't lifted anything heavy in their life. If a student comes to me with a suitcase full of books, then it's the student that lifts them into the motor. I was born with one back, and no way am I ever going to something that knackers it. Rule number one is if you don't want to do it, then don't.
