what would any of you do in this situation, or even what can you do, taxi licensing say its a grey area

you pick up someone, lets just work on this one to which I experienced a few years ago

you pick up a girl from the rank, you set off then the verbal starts, in my case she wanted cigarettes, as I made a turn she let off steam that she wanted to go to so and so all night garage for fags but failed to tell me as I turned into another road, she started all the swearing and insults, so I stopped the cab

I told her to get out now, she refused and told me I am not getting out, going to sit here all night, The taxi licensening have told me that taking her anywhere else other than where she wanted to go could amount to kidnap, does that or would that stand if I was to take her to the police stn or a constable on the beat in the city to have her removed.
your thoughts

If you inform her that if she doesn't get out you will drive to the nearest police station, then that's not kidnapping.

You have given her every chance to leave you motor.

i agree sussex and surely its also just her word against yours if you took her to the police station without saying what you were going or about to do if stopped on route etc. no witnesses...!!

We take punters who don't have any money to the police station, and keep the meter running.
I had a cracker about 4 years ago, i picked up 3 men from the rank and took them to Peebles fare then was £25.00 for 18 miles, when I got there they did a runner, but they forgot there mates where in a cab about 10 Min's behind so I went and got hold of a bobby at the police station and he stopped the other cab and got all the details of the ones that did the runner
I gave him mine and the next afternoon I received a call from one of the parents who had come down to my town to find me I told him where I was and he came and handed me £50. the police had told him that if the fare was payed within 48 hours no further action would take place
It wasn't just luck that there was another cab on its way, after giving the police the descriptions he knew them, its a good job there are local police in there home towns

Take her to the police stn, it's the only thing you can do.
On the way to the police stn I would wager she jumps out  .

On the very few occasions this has happened to me it has always been women and I've stopped the cab and shown them the door, luckily on all but 1 occasion they got out screaming obscenities and wandered off.

On the 1 occasion she wouldn't get out I decided as I was due to go home anyway and as I only live a mile from the city centre where I picked her up from I decided I would just head for home.

Obviously she pipes up "where the f#ck you going"

"I'm going home" I says "and you're quite welcome to spend the night in my cab if you want"

She wasn't to know how close I lived to where we were and obviously got very irate and decided she would afterall get out.

A few years ago, after a very long Saturday shift, I picked up from the rank going 5 miles past my house. I had to drive through the town I live in and because my passenger had been silent turned into my estate, turned the various corners and eventually pulled up on my drive, it was only when I stopped that the punter said "I don't live here mate" I realised he was there. By the time I had gathered all the change back into my bag we both saw the funny side.

I may have posted this before.

I used to to a school run, taking 2 autistic boys to school. they were really well behaved and i built up a rapport with them, even getting them to talk to me sometimes. One day a mate who also had a school run was off work and asked me to cover his for him, as his lad lived near where i drop mine off, i did it.
Got mine home, and in their houses and set off back to town, it was only when i got my next job and the person was getting in the back a little voice piped up "are we nearly home yet"
I'd only forgotten to drop him off :? he'd been so quiet i'd driven past his house and forgot i had him in!!
I had to ask the bloke to wait for another car and whip the little lad back home!!
