HI'YA just found this great discussion forum. :D

i just passed my knowledege test and just have my medical to do.But i'm unsure what to do next.Would i be better to go HACKNEY or PH.

I seen the price of a HACKNEY CAB and they are very expensive.
If i went PRIVATE HIRE whats the best car to buy,ive seen most using mondeos, deisel is best to buy right! i think the plate for a PH is £120 is the cost the same on a hackney plate? ive got about £5000 to get me started, whats the best road "as it were" to take

ive got so many questions????????? but i dont wanna clog up the forum :?

why the hell did you not research all this prior to knowledge and medical?
seems a strange way of going about things.

sussex will probably tell me off for this, but private hire is the place to start and learn the job.

you'll get to know if you like the trade and get to know your location better, knowledges are fine but its work on the ground that counts.

if you like the job after a few months, you still have the option to go hackney, but wait until the governemt have decided something and your more aware locally of any de-limitation before you spend money on licenses.

despite some of the comments on here, its a decent enough job, the majority of PH and HC people are pretty good too, across the country, (same [edited by admin] different place), as a butterboy dont believe what the old timers tell you how much theyve made, double check any quote jobs, and never let anyone send you for tartan paint.

regards

Captain cab

Initially I would think twice about spending too much, but have a look around, see what the other drivers have, ask them their views, and then go for it.

i'm really made up i passed my knowledge test first time

anyway:

i'm thinking maybe to go PH for a while till i get used to how it all works an that.i see some adverts in the local paper which say car/radio/insurance from £150 per week. How does that work out?do i pay the taxi firm £150 for the use of a car full time, all taxed mot'ed by them.

OR would i be better off buying my own car and paying my own insurance, mot, tax and renting the radio,n how much roughly is taxi insurance for new drivers(i'm 30 +no points on liscence)

i think i will register now for this forum, its a great help :D

£150 a week for the car and circuit rent sounds cheap. Are you up north?

Insurance costs are between £1,500 and £3,000. If you have a bit of no-claim bonus you can transfer from your private car policy it will help you a lot, even if you then have to pay full price for your private car.
