recently our council has been issuing penalty points to local taxis working the square instead of the rank. As a result local taxis are sitting on the rank whilst PH cars from one particular Peterborough firm are cleaning up by illegally plying for hire in the square last night they had 20 cars working Stamford but council just bullshits drivers who complain Would the local trade have any grounds to sue the council if they could be galvanised into banding together it is estimated 15 to 25 percent of all rank work is being grabbed by the PH cars from Peterborough as red lion square is far more convenient for customers than the rank which is further away from much of the Night time venues. Which was why so many of the local hackneys would go there. It was also the original site of our rank till we were shifted to make way for a street cafe which never happened |

well i have emailed our council warning them that they need to take action or the drivers may turn militant. I have spoken to Peterborough city council who say the most they can do is give the owner of the firm a stern verbal warning. I think I might have to organise some sort of secret filming or a petition on the gov. uk site to push the licensing team into action |

our council has now emailed me back asking for a list of the number plates and licence plate numbers which of course my drivers never took In other words we have to do their job for them because they won't

So hackneys are complaining that PH are illegally plying for hire, and that they can't illegally ply/form a rank in the square ?! And that they are being forced to legally use a rank ? Surely if a hack is driving through the square and gets a flagdown it's legal, they just can't wait because there's no rank. So you want the PH to comply with the law, whilst allowing hacks to break it ? Don't break the law, don't get points. |

Quote: In other words we have to do their job for them because they won't ![]() Well that is often the case. All prosecuting authorities need evidence, and some drivers saying some other drivers are doing dodgy things is not enough evidence, especially if the council have no idea who those drivers are that are doing the dodgy stuff. As you alluded to earlier, video the dodgy stuff and include descriptions of the drivers. The more evidence the more the council will have to act. It's the way it is. |

Surround them by ranking up next to them. That's what we use to do some years ago when one certain firm from another district was installing freephones in the local supermarkets, their drivers thought they could rank up outside the supermarkets and wait for work. |
