woman killed in pedicab crash

A woman in her 20s has died in a crash involving a car and a pedicab she was travelling in on a south London road.
Emergency services were called to the crash at 04:10 BST in New Kent Road, Southwark, on Sunday.

Despite treatment, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been informed, the Met said.
Police arrested the driver of the car on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The pedicab driver, a man in his 30s, was treated in hospital after suffering a suspected broken arm.

oh FFS

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-62151597

A drunk driver travelled for 10 miles down the M4 with two tyres missing after a night out with friends.
Despite being twice the limit and admitting to drink driving, Laurie Rosser, 42, blamed Covid for making his mind "cloudy".
Image
Swansea Magistrates' Court heard Rosser, from Gorseinon, had two wheel "blowouts" on his Vauxhall van on 26 June, yet continued driving.
He was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £300.

The court heard how motorists had seen the builder's van travelling down the motorway, with a front and rear tyre missing, and the steel hubs worn away.

Say you rent the warmer or anything else they try to mug you off with, and it breacks down.

Can you claim loss of earnings when you take it to the dealers to repair? :-k

What a hypocrite she should resign !

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-62207530

A police and crime commissioner who had pledged to crack down on speeding has been given a six-month driving ban after being caught breaking the limit five times in 12 weeks.
Nottinghamshire's Conservative PCC Caroline Henry broke a 30mph (48km/h) limit in four locations in the county between March and June 2021.

Henry admitted the offences at Nottingham Magistrates' Court in May.
The 52-year-old declined to answer questions on whether she would resign.

The PCC, who was elected to the post in May 2021, was caught speeding in a Mercedes and a Lexus with a personalised number plate.

Henry, who is married to Conservative Broxtowe MP Darren Henry, was captured over the speed limit twice near a primary school in Daybrook, Nottinghamshire, as well as roads in Chilwell, Beeston and on the county's A610.

Those cameras have been there over 20 years !

A Taxi or private hire driver committing these offences would not only get the 6 month driving ban but under this governments guidelines would loose his L/A drivers licence in all probability for life.

Indeed, she should resign.

you would have thought they wouldn't have missed that !

A football club which renamed a stand after a sponsor will change its name again, after fans pointed out it would include the name of a serial killer.
Southend United sold naming rights for the West Stand at their Roots Hall ground to estate agents Gilbert & Rose.

Now when fans want to buy a ticket, the stadium plan shows availability in the Gilbert & Rose West Stand.

The football club said it was talking to the sponsor about a "different arrangement of words". I should hope so too

Brighton contractors make spelling mistake outside 'shcool'

Image

IT MIGHT be time for council road contractors to go back to school.

A team who painted new road markings outside Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA) in Chalky Road for the start of the new term made an unfortunate error... spelling school "SHCOOL".

The blunder was spotted by parents and children this morning as the new Year 7s and Year 11s arrived for the first day of term.

One person who saw the incorrect spelling said: “Hopefully the person who wrote the sign did not graduate from PACA, as that would be so embarrassing as he would need to attend some evening classes.

“I think he should get an F grade and some extra homework.”

Brighton and Hove City Councillor Peter Atkinson, who represents the North Portslade ward, also saw the error. He said: “They obviously didn’t have a spell checker with them.”

The council was quick to rectify the embarrassing mistake.

A spokesman said: “Unfortunately our contractor carrying out our resurfacing work on Chalky Road outside PACA originally misspelt the word ‘school’.

“This has now been put right at no cost to the council.”

Students from all year groups return from their summer holidays on Monday.

Public spelling mistakes are nothing new.

In 2018, Lloyds Bank came under fire for its sign outside its Kemp Town branch which had the address as "Kempston".

Some years before that, Highways Agency workers misspelt the famous opera venue Glyndebourne as Glynbourne on three signs along the A27.

And a giant sign welcoming people to Brighton's North Laine Conversation Area instead of conservation area was quite popular among residents, but was eventually removed.
