Young robbery suspects arrested after flagging down unmarked police car they thought was their getaway taxi

Two young robbery suspects were caught after they flagged down an unmarked police car believing it was a taxi they had just ordered to escape. Both were promptly arrested, police have revealed.

They had been hiding in a bush by a canal after a major police operation in Sale, Trafford, on Saturday.

Police were investigating a series of robberies they said were committed around the centre of Sale over the past few weeks. The operation - which also involved the police helicopter - was launched after another report of a robbery.

Police said a gang thought to be involved were believed to be using the Metrolink system to escape after targeting victims.

After the robbery report on Saturday, officers from Sale and Greater Manchester Police's newly-formed transport unit attended the Dane Road Metrolink stop in Sale and the canal towpath nearby.

Police said a 16-year-old boy was arrested, but others ran away. The two suspects 'emerged' from the bush near the Waterside in Sale as police searches of the area were ongoing.

Police said they 'began to flag down' the unmarked police car believing it was the taxi they had ordered. GMP Trafford South detailed the arrests and operation on a Facebook page.

Another boy, aged 17, was subsequently arrested and found with suspected stolen mobile phones.

They said on Sunday: "Following a report of a group of males yesterday committing a robbery in Stamford Park and believed to be using the Metrolink service to aid escape, officers from the Transport Unit along with @GMPSale and @NPASNorthWest attended the area of Dane Road Metrolink station and the canal tow path.

"A 16-year- old male was quickly arrested by @GMPSale who is suspected to be involved and a number of others made off from officers.

"During a continued area search and whilst Transport Unit officers were looking for the outstanding offenders on Waterside, two more emerged from a bush and began to flag down our unmarked police vehicle believing it to be a taxi which they had ordered moments earlier to aid their escape!"

Police said enquiries were continuing.

GMP Trafford South added: "Another 17-year-old male was arrested and found to be in possession of the earlier stolen mobile phones.

"It is suspected the males involved have committed a number of robberies in the area of the past few weeks, travelling into the area using the Metrolink Service which is heavily covered by CCTV.

"Enquiries are ongoing and we will be looking to link them to other recent robberies in the area.

"We would like to thank local residents for their assistance in yesterday’s incident and helping us to bring a number of offenders to justice."

An investigation has been launched after a collision between two planes on the tarmac at Aberdeen International Airport.

The nose of one of the aircraft ended up wedged under the engine of the other on Tuesday evening, lifting it off the ground.

No passengers were on board the Loganair jet, which was struck by the former Flybe plane.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been informed.
No-one was injured in the incident.

A mate of mine is one of the top aircraft accident investigators (ground accidents) in the UK.

He always tells me it's the pilots not paying attention.

You just knew this was coming

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-53100321

Coronavirus outbreaks have been reported in Leicester and at a meat processing plant in Yorkshire.
About 25% of Leicester's 2,494 confirmed Covid-19 cases were reported in the last two weeks, according to official figures.

Leicester City Council's public health director said the numbers - 658 in the last fortnight - were "relatively small" but of concern.

That is way more than the current mini outbreak in china and they are doing something about it

Australia starts deporting criminals to Britain  history is reversed

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-53095334

Jones was released on parole earlier this month and was deported on a private jet chartered by the Australian Border Force (ABF), along with seven other males deported back to Britain.

Had Jones remained in Australia, he would have been on parole for life, which would have involved regular surveillance from police.

In the UK, however, he will be placed on an offenders register, according to Australian media reports.

Tower Bridge was stuck open for more than an hour, leaving hundreds of people and vehicles stranded in central London.

The famous crossing failed to close after allowing a ship to pass along the River Thames on Saturday afternoon.

Pictures show queues of motorists and pedestrians forming on both sides.
City of London Police said engineers rushed to fix the bridge. It has reopened to pedestrians but motorists have been urged to find another route.

A witness said they overheard talk of "multiple failures" on security radios.

bet the London boys loved that !

They think they’re going to live for ever at that age. Two close calls on Dixon street Lincoln city centre yesterday. 1600 and the traffic at pre covid levels, and bank holiday weekend too. So a wuckfit on an illegal electric scooter rides it up the street between two lanes of stationary traffic. On my way home at 2300 the same day, and the wife driving, at 25-30 in a 30 limit, overtaken by a Beamer who just avoids a head on collision. Drivers in their 20’s are a dying breed.

A man has been arrested after a pink ice cream van was chased by police through Nottingham.
Officers spotted the brightly coloured vehicle on the A52 just before 01:20 BST on Thursday, soon after it was reported stolen from Bobbers Mill Road.

Police said the "unusual getaway vehicle" made it easier for them to track down in the middle of night.
But when the van emblazoned with Disney characters and a "super whippy" sign failed to pull over, a chase ensued.

Nottinghamshire Police said the van was driven dangerously to evade officers before eventually stopping.

clearly the bloke was desperate to get himself locked up ! #-o
