like most authorities i have to carry a 1st aid kit (ph) yet there is no standard as to what is in it, or qualification on how to use it, mine has a pair of latex gloves, blunt scissors, tri bandage and plasters that of course you cannot use incase the person is allergic to them,
so what is the point.
has anyone used theirs or not used in fear of getting sued?.
and why do we have to carry them

because it is a silly antiquated law, just like carrying a fire extinguisher.

Also it means the test centre has a box which it has to tick helping to justify its charges to you.

Absolutely no benefit to anybody at all.

I have often asked within the trade if anyone has ever heard of a driver using his extinguisher and have yet to hear a yes.

How much money has the trade spent on fire extinguishers in the last 20 years?

Why are taxi drivers expected to carry these things and yet not a private motorist?

you dont need a first aid kit in B&H anymore.
something to do with not being competant.
dont know what they mean.

The contents of ours is counted at the tests (every 6 months) even the 12 safety pins are checked!

Isnt it for your own use rather than treating a punter? it coud get tricky treating a punter who's injured, could make them worse! Big damages claim!

It won't be long before some council decides that all drivers have to pass a 1st aid course before they can have a licence.

Hope it doesn't sound too much like I have a bee in my bonnet about useless beaurocracy that gets in the way of us doing business.

If it's a toss up between getting rid of first aid kits, or training all drivers in first aid, well we all know what's going to happen.

And who's going to pay for it.

Taxi drivers tee off for a welcome with Open arms Apr 7 2006

TAXI drivers in Wirral are to be trained in the intricacies of golf and the Open Championship as part of a scheme to make them "ambassadors" for the borough during the tournament this summer.

With just 14 weeks until the expected influx of thousands of visitors to attend the championship in July, Wirral has begun a massive branding exercise.

The campaign was launched at the home of the 2006 Open in the Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake with Wirral Council, police and Merseytravel among those taking part.

Steve Foulkes, leader of the Labour group on the council, said the aim was to bring the excitement and opportunities of the competition to everyone in Wirral.








He said: "This is about bringing it alive for ordinary citizens, who can play a part in being a welcoming face.


"Whether they are shopkeepers, ice-cream salesmen or ordinary citizens, how they act towards visitors - even if just by being friendly - will help them decide whether they want to come back."


The new brand slogan for the borough "Wirral - open to all" will be displayed everywhere by Merseytravel, the council and local businesses.


Part of the scheme in the run-up to the tournament will be the one-day training course for taxi drivers who will be taught about golf, the Open and given information about places to go in the borough to pass on to visitors during the competition. They will also get logos for their cabs.

1 The first aid kit is for personal use only, and must be carried in the car at all times, this is posted under the working health and safety laws, you are not allowed to use it on any other person, you are not even allowed to give it to a police Constable if requested to do so,yer right if we can save someones life lets do it and stuff the rules.
And if the kit has been opened for any length of time it must be binned and a new kit bought
