Dear Contracors

I am aware that some of you are worried about the impact of Coronavirus on your business and particularly whether you will continue to get paid if a school or day centre decides to close or deny access to some of their students / clients.

Our Conditions of Contract state that if for any unforeseeable reason a School, College or Social Services establishment is closed so that it becomes unnecessary to provide transport on any day when the Contract would normally operate, the Council will pay the full Contract Price for a period of up to one week. Should the unforeseen closure of a School, College or Social Services establishment exceed one week in length, the Council will pay 50% of the Contract Price for a period of up to three calendar months.

However, due to the nature of this particular unforeseen event and the wider impact on businesses and individuals, we have decided that we will continue to pay your contract costs for as long as the establishment is closed but for a closure of more than 2 weeks we would expect to see a discount in the daily cost due to the fuel saved by not operating.

I hope this helps to alleviate concerns about payments, and makes clear our current position on contract obligations, but please contact us if you need any further clarification.

Regards

I bet the bases wont pass on the money to owner drivers doing contracts tho

I'm amazed that a council could be so generous.

I hope the council insists that 100% of any money they give to the operator goes to the driver.

Else the council should look at paying the drivers direct.

It seems Kent used to take a differing view, the number of times I turned up 8 miles out of town to collect a lad to take hime to school another 15 miles down the road. Invariably he wouldn't go to school and I got paid sweet FA by Kent even for the dead mileage. No wonder others gave up the contract within weeks of it being awarded.

This is what we have had from Leicestershire at the moment.

The Council would expect all vehicles to be in a clean, hygienic and presentable state at all times but it may be prudent to include additional measures such as regular cleaning of hand holds and door handles.

If any drivers or escorts are unwell please ensure that national guidance is followed and alert this team at the earliest possible time to arrange cover for contracts if required. We will assess if the cover charge will be applied on a case by case basis but it may be waived if cover is required to enable staff to self-isolate.

The cover charge referred to is the 30% of the daily price we have to pay to County Hall if they have to provide cover. I would also bet that if the schools close we wont get a penny.

Should schools close down here there is absolutely no chance drivers will be paid.

No chance whatsoever.

Well you could knock me down with a feather.
I asked the question about payments for closed schools this morning and Leicestershire are going to pay 60% of the contract price. \:D/

We are on the 1% discount payment scheme and we will have to asses what other work we are able to do if the whole system goes into lockdown and if we have to reduce drivers hours or lay them off. We will have to work it out with individual drivers if they would be better off getting some pay from us or claiming benefits.
It is reassuring to know that we will be able to cover all the overheads and stuff until the middle of July
At the moment we have had one contract stopped because of the Corona virus which my son was doing anyway and 2 students on another contract are being kept off school because they have a sister with a heart condition.

i have the SLIGHTEST suspicion that firms like the biggest in Staffs (£120,000 per month school runs) may not be so generous

then again, im not sure the county will pay anything
