I have just renewed my Insurance, and have full NCB and a clean licence yet the premiums have gone up at £816
While on the phone they let slip that no insurance company will go below £800 this year, yet last year I paid £650.
Looks like they are going to grab us all by the short and curly,s.
I filled in an online application with all the details, and so far around 6 company,s have called none could go below £850.

You would think they would offer a bigger discount to sell more policies, wouldn’t you?

I have full NCB and would be delighted with £850.

Last time I paid that low a premium was about 5/6 years ago.

I paid £1060 last year with full NCB and a clean license.
I now always insist on a uk based company (Arriva at the moment) and protected no claims.

Paid £819.44 last year, and to be honest wasn't expecting much change out of a grand this year. If it's no more than £900 then I won't be too unhappy.

could do with a clue as to which brokers/which insurers are quoting so low

mine was £1100, adding £10m PL, protected excess, NCB and breakdown made it £1300

Same as mine, age seems to be a big factor now(older).

I've been with Paton's for a few years now. Normally just the basic policy.

Currently £819 with Sabre. Last policy was £781 with Liverpool Victoria, who had covered me for a couple of years previously.

But to be honest I doubt if there's much to be saved by shopping around all over the place. Suspect most of the brokers include much the same panel of insurers, so any savings probably minimal, if at all.

Suspect likes of me and Skippy's areas regarded as low risk, so that's probably a factor.

Also, haven't you a few medical conditions that might affect your premium?

Car was brand new when I bought it, but is six years old now, so obviously worth a lot less, but when I've asked about that in the past they've always said it's not really a factor.

Someone mentioned something else recently on here that I'd never really thought of before as a factor, but I can't remember what it is now :-s

Never really thought about the age thing, as suggested by Heathcote, but I'm still the right side of 60, and I very much doubt if age is a factor before then. In fact I'd have guessed more like 70 until it made any significant difference to the premium, but think I'll ask about that when I'm renewing at the end of August

(Although obviously age is a major factor for the very youngest drivers.)

Asked a broker why another guy's insurance was £500 higher than the year before.........because he went bankrupt and was a "moral risk"

the blokes wife left him and wrung him out for money, took his car and house, how is that reason to increase DRIVING premiums?

When I changed vehicles this time last year to a new Vito, (hindsight, a wonderful thing), my insurance company had a maximum value insured up to £30,000. So I had to change companies. My broker quoted me £1800!! It was previously around £1,000, albeit with a ten year old vehicle. I told him where to go and he said he’d do a little work on it and call me back.
Miraculously, he called back with a price if £1060. When I queried him, his answer was “I thought you wanted cover quickly”. I always shop around ( never, ever, use a taxi specific comparison website, I had over twenty emails, phone calls etc, for a couple of years after doing this!) I usually ring two or three just to gauge the price, nine out of ten times my broker will price match, if not, I change.

Just renewed with TFP schemes (Aviva) again this year through premier insurance (Winsford) £1076 with protected no claims. Had a quote of £1019 but that was with an offshore based company, Been there, done that, never again.
