China would be even further up s**t creek without trade, AND also would be without a paddle, in a barbed wire canoe. So there. You can Kow-Tow if you want to, to paraphrase the wonderful Margaret Thatcher.

coming from a city which has a proud manufacturing and engineering tradition I think you have an odd opinion of her.

Are you telling me that Lincoln didn't lose lots of companies and jobs under her cull of UK industry in the 80's ?

It was the unions that destroyed jobs, the likes of Red Robbo and all.

A real blast from the past there. I worked at British Leyland at the time of red Robbo. I remember Sir Michael Edwards being brought in and sorting him out. It turned out that red Robbo didn't even work at British Leyland and he just had an office in the Longbridge plant. Sir Michael banned him from going into the plant and that was that.

Mick McGahey (pit)
Ray Buckton (rail)

At risk of getting in a politics debate with Mr T.......

How exactly do you define 'us'?

And where does 'us' stop.

Is 'foreign aid' giving money to Scotland?

When it comes to looking 'after our own' those of us in the cozy South East might resent the money by our taxes being spent on 'them up north'.

Are you a red or a blue?

Are you English?

Are you British?

Are you a European?

Are you a resident of Earth?

Ah! A tax payer.

So, do you feel obliged to ensure that you pay your full and proper amount of tax each year to the government?

If you do declare every penny, and don't claim for 'bits' that you possibly shouldn't, then of course you can moan about us 'not looking after our own' well enough.

But if you don't, then you should accept that you are actually robbing our own 'needy' from receiving the help that they deserve.

Last summer I listened to a sparky moan for two weeks about how the government doesn't do this or that. That was the same guy who insisted 50% of his bill was paid in cash (because he only worked for the government 3 days a week).

Overseas aid is proven to have far more economic benefit for our country than it costs. It is a good investment for us long term.

Your Question should have been Why do you disagree with overseas aid. I don't ,I disagree with it's mismanagement

But you started the thread by saying

Foreign aid should it not be used here now we gave 14Billion out in 2019

Which is questioning whether we should be giving it. Not its mismanagement.

As I have said before some of that money, IMO most of it, is spent wisely helping people in this world live a life without pain and with food and water.

I know how some of it is spent, and I doubt the tax payers of this country could ever get more value for their money.

Anyway it looks like I an not the only one that thinks this way,
Dominic Raab slashes foreign aid to China after £71m taxpayers' cash paid in one yearThe Foreign Secretary has ordered £2.9 billion to be wiped from the aid budget this year in the wake of the coronavirus crisis, with a source stressing the “axe would fall” on China.
