928 covid people in English hospitals down from 1233 this time last week. Down from 17,172 in the middle of April.

Are the figures lower because people have got better or because they have died?

Probably a bit of both.

But the telling thing IMO is they haven't been added to in significant numbers.

Number of deaths is thankfully decreasing, as is the number going to hospital and on ventilators.

However the number of new cases is getting higher and higher every day.

as it is everywhere. I think the problem is that either you destroy your economy or let the disease steadily infect the population.

I think we will all have to catch it at some point in the next 12 months UNLESS the vaccine becomes available

I think Chris Whitty saying 'that we are at the limit of what we can do' is telling enough.

But I wish more of the younger folk acted a bit more sensibly.

They have had 13 cases in the last week, nothing for the last two days.

Rutland has had none.

B&H has had six.

All the cases were related to one factory. It waas not all the workers but family members. I think it affected about 5 families. Becausse we were at such a low level any increase shows as a large spike. our population for the whole Borough is around 51,000.

As of today the number of covid patients in intensive care beds in England is 65.

The number of covid patients in English hospitals is 737.

Both reduced by a very rough 20% in a week.

and Melton rated 4th on list of cases per 100000 :?

But as Pete says with Melton being one of the smallest districts in the UK doesn't take many cases to produce a spike

I have just come from a zoom meeting with the Council. As suspected it is just a handful of families linked to one food factory at the moment but there would seem to be a problem getting them all to isolate. The Council have taken preventitive steps to isolate the affected areas and from Thursday we will have our own fast track covid testing station and all the families in the "bubble" areas will be asked to take a test and anyone in the town who thinks that they have any symptoms will also be asked to get tested. We, as a town, are taking the very small spike very seriously and we intend to get it dealt with very quickly without having to take any further measures.

Maybe their pictures in the local press might help, as then the rest of Melton can isolate away from them.
