Suspect the comments in this article from Burton are pretty universal.

He owns 43 Taxis, in Worthington Way, and says drivers have gone from earning between £70 to £100 to £25 and £30 in a ten-hour shift.

So is the £85 average pre-Covid 'earnings' profit or takings? £85 profit for a ten-hour day is nothing special, but if that's before rent and running costs, then very poor indeed.

Problem is, members of the public reading that will just see profit of £100 per day. And tax-free, of course

So I wish drivers wouldn't quote figures like that in the press. Why not say something like 'takings are a lot less than half of what they were, and we still have to pay fixed costs like insurance and licence fees'.

Or just say that takings are about a third of what they were, which would convey the message clearly and simply [-(

We have today taken more money that we did on the equivelent Thursday before lockdown. We also did this with less drivers working today. I hope the extra work is down to the leaflets that we had delivered last week. We have had a blinding week so far, I just hope we can keep ut going.

Business slowl but surely picking up again, but fare income still only around 33% of what it should be at this time of year, our saving grace is that our School contracts are still in place and the Schools go back next Tuesday the 11th in Scotland so hopefully a decent income starts in september.

And from the 17th of August we can all apply for the second part of the Seiss grant.

So things are looking a wee bit brighter......at least until another spanner gets in the works.

we have had 2 this week but NOT holidaymakers one works abroad and was arriving back in the uk for a visit to his family the others had been trying to find a way from Argentina back to the UK. Relocating to the UK so his kids can go to private school here !

They eventually managed to get to Schipol and across to London city and now have to isolate for 14 days

But the Skegness trip for this weekend cancelled and enquiries are very thin on the ground

My main airport season coincides with the Shooting season so i'll just have to see who and from where comes over from the continent this year.

Non existant.

I had more airport jobs during the height of lock down than I'm doing at the mo.
