 Post subject: Getting out of cabs.

When working off the radio, do you get out of your cab to go in pubs to get punters out at night? Or do you just pull up out the front and hope they come out at the right time?

surely u will come across some pubs and clubs which charge entry,so how could you go in then,what also if there was a queue.I am not a raxi driver YET but i wouldnt just sit outside in my cab and hope they come out,imagine they r inside finishing off their pint of beer whilst your outside waitng to earn a living..sod that.RING BACK is a good idea to say the taxi is outside but apart from that i wouldnt wait more than a few minutes :!: :!:

I was just wondering, because our policy (and we have trained most of ours :wink:) is not to get out of the car. I just wondered what others felt.

I agree with you Only Me, that ringback is a good thing to have.

we always go into the pubs.

more often than not with more jobs later.

Our largest hackney radio company takes work from very few pubs. When they do they always ask the punter to come to the door.

Because this Watford station business has started to intrigue me somewhat, before I went out last night I phoned two individual Watford Cab companies so that I could avail myself of the facts. Remarkably, the people I spoke to both painted an identical picture of the situation, although one chap was definately more clued up than the other.

They both confirmed that the P/H vehicles were ranking up where the cabs used to rank up and I was told this conflict had been going on for three years.

The more informed person of the two that I spoke to has been in the game a long time. He is due a free plate at the next issue. That issue should have been any time now but unfortunately for him it has been deferred until the oft report is sorted out.

He tells me, in his opinion the situation the black and whites now find themselves, was brought about by their own Intransigence and Conciliatory attitude towards the station over a long period of time.

He informs me that the hackney drivers concerned are mainly Asians who have very little understanding of the law and how it is applied. He also stated that the person who owns the P/h firm AA united has come up with the readies with which to pay the station for the privilege of getting the contract. He understands he has 40 cars on the system and he is trying to bring it up to a 100. It appears to me this chap has long term aspirations. I was also informed this contract was on a three month trial.

The other person I spoke to said "the Hackney drivers have a couple of clued up people advising them"

It’s going to be interesting. Has anyone got a legal solution for getting the P/H vehicles off the Station? Serious answers only on a postcard please lol

Back to the topic's question.

I feel that it's horses for courses.

If you know the punter, or the pub well, then get out of the car and have a look.

If it's a iffy pub, then either have call-back, or ask the office to tell them to wait outside.

In my experience, both customers and pubs are getting better educated in the fact that when it's busy, we/I don't hang around. :wink:

Basically just wondering if we were out of step with other areas. We've found that we actually do more jobs and get more people home on time, if we tell them to be outside a such and such a time. Trouble is, that we equally have to ensure that our cab is there at the right time too. Its a balancing act. Do you leave em in the pub just in case you are running tight, or do you get em out and risk being late on the pickup.

We've found that making them come out makes us more effiient in terms of timekeeping overall. But we have lost a few as a result. On balance, however, I think we are better off.
