Don't know about the later VAG DMF reliability but on a new 55 plate skoda octavia i once had I had two DMFs fitted within 55,000 miles, the first was at only 3,000 miles and the Vibration during gear change acceleration was frightening, I got rid of that car when it started doing the same at just under a 100,000 miles.

Interesting. And slightly worrying :?

Mines is still going strong at 125,000 miles, so who knows.

Never been entirely happy with the gear change, mind you. Only really moving off from stationary is a problem, in truth, and easy to lurch forward quickly unless careful with the clutch, but just one of these things you get used to, and I'm not really aware of any difference from how it was brand new, but we'll see.

DMFs certainly not a thing that I hear other drivers talking about so much these days, though. So a bit like the DPFs, which were very problematic when they started appearing about 15 years ago, but not so much now until higher mileages [-o<

EGR
DPF
DMF

take your pick

DMF's are bloody awful things, so bad that PSA have gone back to solid flywheels on a lot of their vehicls.

Factoid

LUK dual mass flywheels (commonest brand fitted) are spring dependent...

There is another type "Planetary gear" type, mainly made by Sachs
