run a bottle of Forte cleaner thru half a tank of diesel, then change the fuel filter
mines down a tad but we are now on winter diesel at the pumps plus post-lockdown the traffic is heavier

Please any advice I have a Euro5 Vito Auto by Cabdirect Was giving me around 32-33mpg local work but now for some reason has dropped to low 20s Tried tyre pressure Tried Wheel tracking Had car fully serviced But still not getting any better What should be the problem and what MPG should I be getting . |

Well I was getting around 31-33 before I did 120 long trip on £15 of diesel But now recently if I’m 100% local it’s low 20s add a little A road 5-10mile jobs reaches high 20s nothing more and other drivers of same cab Averaging 33mpg Mercedes Claims 31.7 Urban 37 average 43.5 Long |

Try being lighter on the right foot, that makes a big difference. Are you driving auto or manual? That makes a difference, auto is usually always in the right gear for the road conditions , manual isn't. |

MPG depends on a lot of things, car condition, road conditions, driving style... I used to run a Chrysler Voyager,(auto box) about 24 mpg, then got a new Toyota Auris hybrid, driving sensibly I got something like 40 mpg out of it. when the lease ran out on that i got a new Skoda Octavia, that gave 56mpg .on diesel with auto/dsc box. My area was mostly rural Romney Marsh with some motorway work. The figures I gave for my Skoda match with your figures.  Maybe the most economical car I've ever run. Plus the servicing charges aren't too over the top.My private car these days is a Range Rover 3.8 TDV8, on long runs (currently abroad) I'm getting up to 29mpg at continental speeds (85-90mph) going down to 24 mpg in town areas, so averaging 26,4 mpg according to the car computer which seems to be as accurate as any. Driving the same car in london still gives about 22mpg, luckily I don't go there that often. |

Just drove back from Belgium through France at "continental motorway speeds" and the mpg according to the car computer for that journey of about 363km miles is a very precise 27 mpg. Average speed it says was 55.2 km/h or 33 mph. But that average is since the other trip meter re-set. It took about 3 and a half hours for the journey, so that gives an average speed of 103km/h, just over 60mph. There was a lot of road works on the way back.Why get a small car whan a car with a big engine gives a better ride at the same mpg?

It’s when the intercooler packs in (and it will) that’s positioned in the ‘V’, and then the hoses will need replacing (one of them is £350 and dealer only!) then the intake manifolds will need cleaning as well. £1500-£2000 minimum. There goes your fuel saving.
