New London tech start-up launches the Money Supermarket of taxis

A pioneering new app set to revolutionise the ride-hailing market has launched in London, providing users with a one-stop-shop for ride-hail and taxi fare comparisons.

Co-founded by software engineer Aaron Kendall and startup advisor and investor Tariq Khan, RideHub offers real-time quotes for leading ride-hail and app-enabled taxi providers across London, allowing users to find the right ride for them based on price, pick-up time and car type.

Initially created for personal use by Kendall after growing frustrated at manually checking multiple different apps to compare high late-night prices, RideHub organically gained a base of regular users across the Apple and Google app stores. After flooding Kendall with positive feedback and requests for additional features, he partnered with Khan to officially launch RideHub to the public.

RideHub is helping users save an average of £10.30 per trip, as well as typically knocking over two minutes off their journey time – with even more substantial cost and time savings made on longer trips. The app covers all major providers across London including Uber, Free Now, Bolt, OLA and Gett, and plans to add more providers as well as rolling out throughout the UK and across Europe in 2021.

Unlike other comparison apps, RideHub recognises that the best ride for customers doesn’t necessarily mean the cheapest – so the platform allows users to filter results based on everything from the vehicle type and location of the driver, through to disabled access and how quickly you’ll reach your destination.

Aaron Kendall, co-founder of RideHub said, “I’m a big fan of ride-hailing services but I used to get so annoyed at having to check all of my apps individually to find the best deal. I also felt like there was a massive lack of transparency around things like surge pricing and I wasn’t always convinced I was being charged fairly.

“After initially creating the app for myself and getting so much great feedback, it was clear that there was a real demand for a service that collates all the various ride options in one place and then deep links straight to a customer’s preferred provider so they can book their ride immediately.”

As well as helping customers make better ride-hailing decisions, RideHub is also helping providers improve their service too. The app fills in journey data black-spots so brands can better understand where and when they can get passengers into empty cars.

Tariq Khan added, “The ride-hail and taxi industry has been hit hard by COVID-19, with less people getting out and about and many watching their spending as much as possible. Although lots of people are still relying on cars and taxis as a safer way to travel, the implications of lockdown are still being felt. The data and insights RideHub is able to share with taxi providers means they will have a clearer idea on how to fill their empty vehicles faster, and in locations where they’re most likely to find high demand.”

This will even be a huge success, or a huge failure.

Not convinced the app firms will allow it to succeed, and also not convinced that punters actually give a stuff.

Surely that means the driver is paying the passenger to ride in their vehicle(average fare in most places is well below £10.30)

people developing these apps always assume helping people pay less is a good thing they never realize that prices might already be very competitive

I suppose to those outside of the trade a comparison site makes sense.

But price comparison sites for airport work have never taken off, and they are reasonably easy to do. Doing one for local work will never succeed.

Too many variables, availability, do folks want upteen apps, do they really want to spend time trying to save a pound?

Thing is the number of licensed drivers is sort of fixed no matter how many apps there are in circulation.

And in the future drivers will have multi apps (many now have multi apps), it means the punters will get the same drivers no matter who they book through.
