So no good reason to flood back to a trade where you could literally catch your death.
Firm I'm on still has dues at 50% despite work being nearly as good, or maybe better, than it was pre covid.
At the height of the pandemic when everything was shut the two big firms in town very generously reduced their rents - one from £300 to £250 the other from £180 to £150, only for six months though, to help the drivers out !!! Both are back to full whack now.
The thing is when all the drivers left to do supermarket delivery and realised they can make more profit doing that for 40 hours a week than they did doing 50 as a cabby (even pre-covid) they ain't coming back - and it dawned on them they were'nt driving cabs for the money but the convenience of being self-employed, no fixed hours, days off whenever etc. Now they're getting a regular amount each week plus paid holidays, sick pay, pension etc. And with pubs paying £15 p/h for bar staff, pizza delivery saying £100-£150 per shift it's going to take a lot to persuade them to go back to cabbing.
