A man walked into an antique shop in Leith and while browsing saw a bronze figure of a rat.
The figurine was beautifully made and he decided he had to have it.
"How much do you want for that bronze rat?" he said.
The shopkeeper replied, "Twelve pounds if you take it; but a hundred pounds if you bring it back!"
He had to have it so paid the twelve pounds asked and left the shop.
As he walked along the street he noticed a few rats started following him.
The further he went the more rats followed and pretty soon there were hundreds.
As he picked up his stride thousands of rats followed squeaking and squealing and chasing him like the devil.
By the time he got to Granton there were millions of rats chasing him with murder on their mind.
In desperation he threw the bronze rat into the Firth of Forth as far as he could.
All the rats followed the bronze one and drowned, every one11111111

The next day he went back into the shop and the owner said, "Aha you're back and if you are returning the bronze rat, that'll be a hundred pounds sir!"
"Oh no" said he, I'm not bringing it back; but how much do you want for that wee bronze Englishman?"
