The other day i had a job to pick up at boots chemist. When i got there an assistant from the store came out with two packages and asked could i take them to a couple of nursing homes nearby. I noticed the packages contained prescription drugs. I radio'd through to the office and they said they dont think I would be insured or allowed to take the packages unless i took one of their assistants with me, so i refused the job. Your views please....?

Ive done that afew times, and gone to pick up a prescription for a customer in the past.

What i draw the line at, is when youre asked to deliver a package from one address to another and I dont know whats in it :?: :?:

But from a chemist to a home i wouldnt hesitate !

If you accept an offer from a person to deliver an item you owe that person a duty of care whether or not you were paid for its delivery. It is always best to consider such offers before accepting them.

The firm I work for takes account work like this all the time we used to do a boots run every day. We also have to take blood samples from one hospital to another and take drugs out to patient’s homes. Another one he had us doing was taking hot meals to peoples homes for social services this must be against some hygiene law. If we complain about this time of work he tells us to go find someone else to work for as there really is no one else really worth working for we are stuck with it.

We also do "legal drug runs" for local chemist's, they're good payers, they come out about mid day when it's just ticking over, and some of them pay £60-£70 for a couple of hours work, worth doing.

I very much doubt they weren't in sealed containers, so if you felt iffy doing it, ask the shop to check they were sealed when you left and the punters to check when you dropped.

I've done these sort of jobs for many years, and have never had a problem.

If anything I would rather do a paper bag then a two legged version.

I guess if the bloke in the office wouldnt have said anything, i'd have gone ahead with the job. I only radio'd through to ask how to work out the fare as they wanted a receipt before i left with the goods

He who is without sin etc etc.

As for your insurance question, you will be fully insured for legal drugs, but not for the illegal version.

Well if you asked the office and the office said no then what else could you do?

I take it it's not a regular run for your office?

mmm
so you are carrying something but you don't know what, surely these can't be presciptions/medication items, there is a strict laid down procedure, my wife gets some prescription drugs once a month at our local chemist, they know me there but still ask for ID etc when I pick em up and sign for her on her behalf if she has not signed

whats to stop someone meddling with the drugs before they got to the nursing home, the idle bat resident nurse should pick them up, what happens if they get lost en route

could you be done for carrying drugs, do you have to be licenced to carry drugs, it could be a minefield
