Post subject:  re-disabled in dundee

Hi guys, not posted for a while been away on holiday again, hard life.
Anyway i spoke to a couple of Dundee lads at the weekend (new wav licencees) and one tells me his office had not one request for a wav since last tuesday and he works in the largest office in the town,so he has been taxiing away merrily picking up normal punters and making good dosh(so he says).Has any operator asked their office to keep stats on wav hires so at least they can confirm if there is a demand that the disabled action groups say that there is?.
Dont despair Dundee ops, soon ALL taxis will be wav`s and then the large number of the disabled who use wav`s(tongue in cheek by the way)will receive the service that they deserve.

    BE HAPPY

Cannot see this Scot, think Mr Young has this well tied up,unless Tele/Handys,are able to set up their own IT,that would take the Discovery card
Keep going,

unless ive been missinformed the council have had to rethink the taxicard situation and a announcement is due before the end of the week ,
theres a lot of talk about dundee going all wav plus the taxicard being compulsary but how will that work all 600 plus hacks working from 203020 ? i think teles may have something to say about that.....

There is no way mr young will allow people from tele/handys,in to download the swipe card,if you had this system, would you allow competitors to do that?

Keep smiling

go for it mate but make sure its a six seater thats where the money is going to be made ,disgusted wife is letting her predudice get the better of her not a good decision in buisness, her claim of higher costs will mean six seaters will fold are totally untrue as any buisnessman apart from her husband will tell you its market forces which decide whofolds ie a cab which costs 100 per week but running about covering wheelchair jobs ,six seater jobs ,contracts, office work plus the ranks stands more chance than a saloon paying 50 per week to sit on the ranks all day,im trying not to get involved in all the bickering but its hard last saturday every time i passed a rank there were saloons sittiing doing nothing yet on sunday it was lets slag the wavs cause nobody is getting in them, then on monday in the office it was there taking all the fares from us,iv yet to hear any new wavs complaining ,dont listen to all the usual taxi talk open your eyes and see whats happening then make a desicion ,another thing to think about is that drivers always go where the money is ,ive just started my first part time driver but have been offered more ,by summer there is going to be a lot of changes in dundee just make sure you dont lose out....

are there any citys where it is compulsary for wavs to join taxi card schemes ,a report in the paper mentions that it should be a condition in new lisences it also says that 50 per cent of dundee,s taxi fleet should be wavs but does not mention that onky one office is allowed to handle taxicards,

Any licensing condition that insists a HC has to work with a specific company, would, in my view, be deemed not to be fair and reasonable, and breach competition laws.

Some fair points Scot, also the one about brivers going where the money is.

What about wheelchair work, heard drivers will not mind driving the wavs, but No! wheelchairs.

Comment.

youre right a lot of drivers aren,t keen on wheelchair jobs, the problem is for eurobus drivers it is matter of removing the middle two seats stapping them to the rear seats to get a wheelchair in but there is a way around this for eorobus owners by removing one of the middle seats a wheelchair can be entered without any fuss this then makes the eurobus a six seater
not a five as some hacks are hoping for i think i wont be going for this option as once you have done it several times it does get easier, wheelchar jobs are appearing more frequently and they are getting covered id like to ask why when they have taxicards are they prepared to lose out on 2.50 per fare and phone taxi companies that are not entitled to taxicard work ill write to the paper maybe they will get an answer....

Scot, some of the Eurobus vehicles, have double seats in the middle and this is a complete ass of a thing to remove these and put them on the back seats.
The operators or drivers, will not take them out,as it could cost them some fares.
The taxicard holders that are not using their cards are, floating customers that have been around all the time, but are enjoying not being tied down to pre-booking

this is what i was trying to explain it is a lot of work removing then putting back the seats but by removing one of the middle seats permantly (you will have to pay for this )you will have room for a wheelchair without having to remove the other seat you will also still be able to pick up six seater jobs but not seven seater jobs .....
