what heating are you on, gas or NSR?

What's heating? :x

I'm off-grid LPG gas, house very poorly insulated, so costs horrendous even a few years ago, so I'm just ad hoc with electric convector heaters one room at a time, or put the central heating on if I've got people round etc ](*,)

So although I can manage in summer on 2-3 units a day (quick shower, a few kettles of water, toaster, microwave, laptop and phones etc), heating the house is a whole different ball game :-o

I mean, running one standard 2kW convector heater for an hour uses almost the same as I'd use for 24 hours in summer for everything, and that would barely heat my living room in the dead of winter :x

Pretty rural, but it's farmland rather than moorland.

August bill in at £85.00 so increased credit by another 15 no sign yet of attempt to up direct debit higher

I'm hoping that my high credit balance will stave that off till October

Ive actually looked at buying a river/canal cruiser to live in, im pretty well up on 12v-solar-off grid type energy and £7500 looks a bargain - our Band A rates £1150/year, rent £5000/year gas n leccy off the scale

watch a few videos on you tube it's a lot tougher than it seems and can actually be almost as expensive to live during winter in a narrowboat than in a house

there is a video by foxes afloat which did a breakdown of what it was costing them (they have sold up and moved on now) but quite informative and certainly put me off

Indeed, and I think the price cap from 1st October will be around 40p/kWh (as opposed to the original proposal of over 50p  ), so about 80p per hour ](*,)

But you're right of course that these heaters will tend not to be on all the time, and click on and off via the thermostat, but depends on factors like your target temperature, the outside temperature, insulation etc

But to heat just my living room in the worst of winter suspect it would be on most of the time, and even if I set the thermostat to full (so it was on all the time) I doubt the room would get particularly warm

I've got my wee desk in my bedroom, and it's a bit smaller, so intend spending more time in there during the winter. And that room's always a wee bit warmer and easier to heat because I get a bit of heat coming through the walls from the neighbours

the trouble for me is that I had already cut out all unnecessary energy usage long before the price hikes had kicked in so can't cut down any further so even the new reduced price cap is going to be quite a hard hit

Work a few more hours in the cab, and turn the heater up.

that's the point I am NOT working at the moment and have refused all offers am not missing it and between the rent coming in on the other house and cash in hand am quite comfortable as long as i don't get extravagant it's amazing how cheaply you can live Not running a car

I would have to work to keep my sanity.

And to keep warm during winter.

Unbelievable

so yesterday i got an email from my energy supplier asking to up my DD because they have calculated that by this time next year 12 months time at my current usage levels I will have a shortfall of £82

their calculation does not take into account the fact that I am £285 in credit

they are asking me to either up my DD immediately or make an immediate top up payment of £82.00 so that in 12 months time they can be sure I will still be in credit

Ask for your £285 back.

Then pay the extra monthly.
