Just picked up a fella from up north and he said his area had all but closed down in mourning for the sad passing of the Queen.

Down here nothing is closed and everything is open as normal. Actually quite busy.

Is this a northern thing?

No, things are pretty normal here in Chester. The races were cancelled Fri/Sat but because it was so short notice people who had plans in place still came to Chester and we had a very busy Saturday night.

Thought you were were talking about the forum when I saw your thread title. Haven't been able to log on since about the time the Queen died. (See other post in admin section) :-o

But, no, don't think it's had a huge impact, although the university buildings here in St Andrews were closed for a night or two. So no big pish up at the students union (although it was still freshers' week), and a play at the Byre Theatre was cancelled for at least one night, because the university owns that as well, apparently.

But as far as I know most of the pubs and suchlike just carried on, and they managed to make a few more bob because aforesaid union was closed.

And, for example, there's miles of cones and some road closures today up near where I was brought up in Angus, because the Queen's coffin is stopping off in Brechin Castle for a private visit, so obviously the roads for a couple of miles around there have been disrupted.

And I think there's lots of barriers and cones in parts of Dundee where the coffin is passing through today, for example, although there are no definite plans to actually close the main outer ring road through Dundee, which is the route down which the entourage will travel.

So there's certainly an element of disruption, but it's limited, and suspect it's more the usual public/private sector thing. Any excuse for a holiday for some, while the minions have to carry on regardless

Yes, noticed that one :-o

Thought maybe 'closed down in morning' was meant to read 'closed down this morning' because of the Queen's coffin route today, but obviously it was the m-word that was misspelt

Happens to us all

Anyway, this is close to where I lived most of my younger days, just coming out of Brechin, and Brechin Castle is about a mile beyond here, where the entourage are apparently stopping off for a private visit.

Never knew there were so many people in the area

I walked down to waitrose this morning and everything seemed normal there but things like football matches cancelled although I noticed the junior sports on the main local playing field seemed to be on this morning. As far as I can tell all shops restaurants and pubs still trading albeit with notices about the queens passing.

When they said on Thursday lunchtime that all members of the royal family had been summoned to Balmoral I suspected that she was on her way out which is often the way when couples have been together for 50 or 60 years they tend to die within a year or so of one another.

Otherwise I have mostly been avoiding the non stop news coverage as it tends to be very boring but will watch the funeral of course

It will be interesting to see what happens Charlie boy has been very quick to appoint William as Prince of wales. He must be about the oldest anyone has been when coming to the throne so doubt he is up to much but I suspect Harry and Meghan will be brought back into the royal circle and used as travelling Royals so he can limit his duties after all he is well into his Pension years

PS M do you fancy letting Trotsky back on for a day to spice the thread up a bit

Trotsky has been free to post for years, but I think he is near to his maker.

I believe he is going the opposite way to the Queen.

Not sure that would annoy him too much, but it’s going to be quite warm where he ends up.

Amazed at the amount of people on the videos from Dundee, particularly as you'd expect it to be one of the least Royalist cities in the UK.

I mean, check out the crowds here, particularly at around the one minute mark, and the route through Dundee is about five miles in total :-o

Oh, aye, and meant to mention in that thread a few days about the taxi advertising stuff in Dundee, a roundabout there is known as a 'circle', which may explain the reference in those newspaper articles...

They even mentioned it on Sky News earlier

Really?
My mum died in 1998 at the age of 76. my mum and dad had been together for over 50 years. My dad died last year at the age of 95 so 23 years between the 2 of them. Next weekend we are taking both of them to Scarborough to be scattered in the sea.
