I used to quote to here maybe twice a year and since it opened only ever got 1 return trip booked

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-63033676

Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) is to close after its owner said "no tangible proposals" had been received regarding its future ownership.
Peel Group said the closure was due to a "fundamental lack of financial viability".

great quote

On Friday, South Yorkshire's political leaders offered public money to keep DSA operating into 2023.
But Peel Group said services at the airport, which employs 800 workers, would wind down from 31 October.

South Yorkshire's mayor Oliver Coppard said he was "devastated by today's announcement" and angry about the impact the closure would have on local communities.
Mr Coppard said there were hundreds of people across Doncaster and South Yorkshire who would now be "frightened for their future".
The airport, which is used by Tui and Wizz Air, flies to destinations including the Canary Islands, Balearics, Greece, Turkey, Poland and the Baltic countries.

didn't bother posting the rest

Instead of always trying to revive corporate corpses with public money they would be better off leaving it to die the death that it's low profitability destined it to do.

You'd think that the public purse was infinite.

There are plenty of other airports for folks to fly from.

That airport is way out of my zone, so have never been anywhere near the place.

But if the airlines don't want to use it, other than maybe a few, then it hasn't got a future.

Shame for the staff, but hopefully they will find employment elsewhere.

It’s 1.8 miles, used to be RAF Finningley, a V bomber base.

An hours drive from Lincoln it was a great airport for us. But air traffic was light, so always under threat of closure. A shame, but so it goes.

Our post office owner was stationed at RAF Carnaby, it was near Bridlington and a landing place for stricken WW2 bombers

9,000 ft (2,700 m) long and 750 ft (230 m) wide. There was a further clear area of 1,500 ft (460 m) at each end of the runway

I think the 5th biggest exporter (2020 figures) is pretty good for a country with 67 million people (21st most populated country) =D> =D> =D>

BUT a huge chunk of those exports are reexports of already imported Gold, Silver, Diamonds etc. another big chunk is North sea oil which we export and then import crude oil from elsewhere because it suits our refineries better. What creates real economic well being is manufactured goods where there is a large amount of value added

That's one way of looking at it.

I take the view that, by the looks of the photo, 1000s of people have jobs there now, whereas I doubt that many used to work at the airport when no bugger used it.

Over 80% of the vehicles built by Jaguar Land Rover in the UK are sold to the world and three of its seven global technology hubs are based in Manchester, Warwick & London. In 2020-21, the company sold 439,588 vehicles in 127 countries, with about 80% of its sales to export markets outside the UK.
