Part of my bus driving expeditions have been to Manchester. Just finished a week there, travelled back to the south yesterday. I got a call from a firm near Maidstone who wanted a bus collecting fro Yaxley, just outside Peterborough. I managed to re-schedule my train ticket to go via Peterborough to collect his bus. But I needed to get a taxi from there to Yaxley, about 5 miles away.

Outside the station at the taxi rank a nice line-up of WAV Mercedes, I got in a cab driven by a chatty Asian driver. The cab was clean and tidy, the chap's driving was very good, a very pleasant ride, Top marks to that man. Contrary to a lot of views on Asian drivers...Well done Peterborough Taxi driver. BTW the meter fare was about £11.80. He got a tip. :)

Most of the hackney drivers in Peterborough are longer service drivers who have a done a few years PH and then moved into Hackney whereas a lot of the drivers with a less professional attitude tend to alternate between Driving Ph the takeaway/Indian restaurants, Ice cream vans or second hand car sales.

When I had my business two thirds of my drivers were Peterborough Asians. They had all been in the trade years and were 40+ age group. By and large got on well with the customers. A couple of times I was persuaded to take on younger less experienced Asian drivers..

... shall we just say they didn't last long

Most of the drivers I encountered in India were as good as gold.

And as cheap as chips. :D
