Great chorus on this, but reminds me that I'll be entering my 60th year in a few weeks

So you weren't a Tight Fit fan, Edders? :-o

Yes, deffo three-hit wonders, and apart from the other big hit posted by Wanna, I couldn't even name another song of theirs.

But the Lion Sleeps Tonight was decent enough as a novelty kind of song, and I thought Fantasy Island was a great song, particularly its Abba-sounding chorus section =D>

As for my age, don't know who you mean by 'we', but I'm deffo increasingly feeling like the token oldie in the local trade

Token 'gammon', even

I must be one of the youngest on here then at 54 ? :D
(But, then again, having been in the job for 32years, I’ve probably aged more than most!)

Lol.

I used to pick up a regular customer who was a postman around 4 years ago.

I think he was on close to £50,000 per year back then as he was with the company a long time by then.

His future pension was mega bucks too.

Don't forget Royal Mail was previously state owned.

Like almost everything state owned salaries get out of hand (it's not their money so if taxpayers are picking up the tab why not?) and pension promises get to ridiculous heights.

And due to certain laws it is very difficult to fire them.

Now that they are privatized they will probably go bankrupt or get socialized again because they have got the previous state owned culture and habits etc.

There is no way they can be competitive with basic workers on those rates. And if the strikes end up successful that will exacerbate the problem.

I see they are trying to stop offering their services on Saturdays (or is it Sundays?) to try and be more efficient.

The only thing they have got going for them is that according to people I know who have used other alternatives is that the competition is poor too in relation to service. Very unreliable.

Will be interesting to watch.

I suppose being a postman is better than walking the streets. :D
