I wanted to know if this is unusual as a cab driver who works the Ranks/ Streets.

Just picked up a customer from Central Station Milton Keynes lady & gentleman got in lady said a unusual street name then the gentleman told me the area (Newish big area) so I carefully drove towards that direction when got to area I asked, Where abouts here is it? Gentleman said take this right past the school & its 2nd left after school, before we took the left turning into the road the gentleman said it’s right turn here & then the woman spoke ‘I told you our address when I got in I don’t appreciate this & started going on to the gentleman I don’t appreciate this I told him the address so you shouldn’t have to repeat it or give him directions!

First time in years I have experienced this,
Many times if I don’t recognise a Street name etc I ask which area? Or if they tell me the street name & area I tend to drive towards the area then ask where here?

I understand I am a Taxi driver & I should know where I am going which I know 99% aslong as it’s within Mk.

But just asking other drivers did I go anything wrong?

As when your picking up off the Rank etc you don’t have time to try put it into a Satnav etc so this is how I’ve don’t it past years.

Doesn't sound that unusual, and by no means confined to rank work.

Often these types are just on the wind up, or have unrealistic expectations with regard to drivers' knowledge.

Like they're going to an obscure farm address in the middle of nowhere, and you say you're not sure where it is, and they say they're going there all the time, and they've never had a driver before who doesn't know where it is. Aye, right

Then there are those who, when you're 90% of the way there, and haven't said anything, suddenly start giving directions. Lucky guess that I got 90% of the way there without asking, even though I don't have a clue, eh? #-o

Or you ask what you think is a sensible question when they get in - like which end of the specified street they're at - and they suddenly assume it's your first day on the job and you've never been to their street before, and you barely know your way out of the street the rank is on ](*,)

But it's never clear if they're genuine, or just taking the pi$$ :?

always takes a while to learn new estates. I used to get the opposite where I would tell the customer I know where it is but they would still insist on directing me because they have difficulties with parcel deliveries and assume no one could possibly know where they live !

Punters arguing with each other drives me mad.

I always say 'I am here you know'.

I mean who the f*** do they think they are? I'm simply not having it.

I had it a few years ago when were hackney. Pick up from the train station. Punter says they want to go to Hall farm on Gaddesby Lane. They were not impressed when I asked which Hall farm and which Gaddesby Lane. There were 4 lanes one after the other called Gaddesby Lane and they all had a Hall farm.
