so first friendly of the season and it was home against the posh 1st team interspersed with a lot of "trialists" although I find it hard to believe so many players are having trials at the club more likely reserve platers being given a close look at ! well it didn't go; well we weren't outclassed although the score line would suggest otherwise It was clear though that we seriously miss the players we lost and defensively we were were very poor and although we have a couple of players who are good runners on the ball we really need a good striker to replace the one we lost to get the ball to and create opportunities There is a LOT of work to get the team into the sort of shape that won us the title last year. The only bright spot is a crowd of nearly 2000 as posh brought well over a 1000 fans with them so a welcome boost to club finances. At least we know the composition of the division now with a lot of clubs getting moved across from the Northern premier league so a few big clubs (by non league standards) including the Poppies which is the first time we have ever been in the same division as them ! Also in our divion are Nuneaton Borough, Telford united and Halesowen so we should get a few big gates |

Many players end up going to lower league clubs nearer to the deadline day because they think they are better than they are and look to be signed up by a higher league club. Some of those will be loaned out, but their existing clubs are undecided if they want to keep them. B&HA loan out dozens all over Europe and our lower leagues. So you will get better players than you have, you just have to hold your nerve. |

Posh sign Brighton reject https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66330992 eterborough United have signed goalkeeper Fynn Talley on a two-year deal following his release by Brighton. The 20-year-old did not make a senior appearance for the Seagulls but played three games during a loan spell with Irish club Cliftonville. |

I would say he was about 10th in line at B&HA. Number 1 at the mo is an old fella who only made his premier league debut last season, but he is very good with his feet and the manager loves that. Number 2 is now the Dutch under 21 keeper, who is being bigged up by people in the know. Number 3 is the fella that Jimbo borrowed last year, the England under 21 number 2. But my favourite is the number 7/8, a 17-year-old that was on loan at Crewe last year. |

so the season is almost upon us ! I still can't get used to the season starting in early August The last friendly of the pre season today and a much better looking side than the one against posh. Today was boston united and we were the better side with a hatful of good chances but we either couldn't shoot on target or were denied by their keeper (aparently their best player last season). conceded 2/3rds of the way through the first half to their only chance of the 1st half scored by their ex Aston Villa striker. Equalised 10 minutes into the second but despite a lot of good opportunities couldn't make it count. So preseason included victories over League one Stevenage and conference north P'boro sports and a draw vs conference North Boston plus a 7-0 thrashing of melton town but threw away a 3-0 lead against Corby and the drubbing by posh. It looks like we have replaced some of the players who moved on but not all so I'm thinking maybe mid table. Next saturday we kick off at home vs Kettering. Prices are up 20% on last season but I've noticed they are looking for stewards so perhaps if I volunteer I can cut the cost a little. anyway who else has been to pre season games and how do you rate your prospects for the new season ? |

New be nice rules. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66359526 Give them 5-6 games before they are watered down via pressure from numpty pundits. |

Quote: Managers and coaches will also have to adhere to new rules covering the technical area. last year one opposition coach spent about 2/3rds of the game shouting instructions to his players whilst stood 2 or 3 feet inside the playing area the linesman never said a word ! |

Got to be the greatest football stat I've ever seen. This will be the first season since 1930-31 when none of Stanley Matthews, Peter Shilton and Gianluigi Buffon makes a first team appearance. Matthews. 1932 - 47 Stoke. 1947 - 61 Blackpool 1961 - 65 Stoke. Shilton. 1966 - 1974 Leicester 1974 - 1977 Stoke 1977 - 1982 Forest 1982 - 1987 Southampton 1987 - 1992 Derby 1992 - 1995 Plymouth. Buffon. 1995 - 2001 Parma 2001 - 2018 Juventus 2018-2019 PSG 2019 - 2021 Juventus 2021 - 2023 Parma. |

So the first day of the season ( I still can't believe the season starts early August )A bit nerve racking for the first game but after 2 shocking defensive errors in the first half giving away a stupid penalty and then passing the ball around the box with forwards breathing down their necks we managed to show a bit of class and resilience putting the ball in the back of the net 3 times in the first half (1 disallowed for off side). The ref was letting a few blatent fouls go unpunished but despite some concerted pressure by the poppies for a 20 minute spell after the break we bundled the ball into the back of the net during a goalmouth scramble and despite about 8 minutes of extra time being played we hung on so daniels 3 poppies 2 and our first 3 points . Next week is away to probably one of the likely contenders so won't predict our likely finish until after that game.No premier league of course as they get a longer holiday but elsewhere CC should be happy with Carlisle's draw against Fleetwood and Jimbo will be "sick as a parrot" of course. |

so all leagues now under way premier league teams Forest lost so pete won't be happy but Sussex will have enjoyed the hatters getting a lesson in what the premier league is about in league 1 CC's carlisle went down 1-0 at Oxford but the Imps bounced back in style so Jimbo should be happy and down in the Southern league we were away to redditch today and came away with a 3-1 win and the poppies who thought they were hard done by to lose to us last week went down 4-2 at home to Stourbridge their supporters assumed as they'd dropped a division they'd walk it well they are in for a shock because the Northern premier is a higher quality and the teams moving across to the Southern are racking up the points

B&HA has more chance of winning the league than Luton does of staying in it. Absolutely hopeless. |
