That's my lot then. Insurance Company wrote my Cab off. I have looked at the options and I will not pay the kind of money wanted for a new Taxi, so I will join the 33% that have left the Taxi Trade in the last 2 years in Plymouth. I've no intention of ignoring Taxi Driver Online, so you lot will have to put up with me still. Looking into voluntary patient transfer, as long as it doesn't interfere with my fishing, it's probably what I'll do. Strangely, I suggested to all the volunteer groups that I would get a WAV (ex Motability) and they aren't interested - they just send all wheelchair passengers to expensive Private Ambulances! Life is just too short for Day Time TV. |

Not for me Wannabe. Going to Rome (again - been often) in couple of weeks Edders. No fishing this week, too windy, but I will be on Boat Charter once a week which costs about the same as having a boat with moorings, insurance, basic servicing etc. yet that's without using it and putting fuel in! If something goes wrong it's always expensive. If I miss a week because of the weather or whatever, I can go further afield and stay in a B&B the following week. I am happy as a Pig in 5hit. I have made and repaired Fishing Rods for years, been doing much more of that lately too, and as a Skipper (Sail or Power) I might do some Yacht delivery as Skipper or Crew. |

I had my Cab made (well, converted) especially for me. I am 6' 4" and particularly long limbed, so the bandit screen went further back than usual and to accommodate that and to deal with the bigger Electric Wheelchairs I had an exception to the Vehicle standards to have a long wheelbase, given by the Taxi Committee. I had a proven track record of Wheelchair work, in a City with 100% WAV I was the only one who would take an Electric WC as a booking. The W/C users are livid that now they only have a PH Co that charge about 170% of the Hackney rate in their tail lift vehicles. So, because I am a full grown adult, I can't rent. I will not go PH, I'd rather stick pins in my eyes. Fishing from boats, beaches, rocks and piers, interrupted by Yacht delivery maybe, and some complex Rod Wrapping will do for me. Perhaps some volunteer Patient Transport if they see sense. I was always against cross border, but I did consider that. Found a Local Authority that would License an ex-motability rear loading WAV car as a Hackney, which I made plain would be working as PH in Plymouth, West Devon, South Hams and Caradon Zone in Cornwall. They had no problem with the idea. Just prohibitive because they are not Brand New, but still attract VAT so cost more than they are worth. |

Can certainly see where you're coming from, Chris. Apart from the personal stuff, nothing ever seems to get any easier as regards the job more generally, even in our wee town here. Or maybe it's an age thing But best of luck with what you intend doing

I'm almost at the point of packing it in too, when the uncertainty outweighs the certainties then its maybe time to move on......we are being forced to meet and pay for an ever growing list of Eco regulations and other rules out of an ever diminishing number of Customers and their cash.. Something has to give. |

Something has to give. If you can exit the business and recoup some money from the sale of said business and assrts plus afford either to take a long sabbatical or retire the reduction in stress and ability to fianlly tick off one or two bucket list items is well worth it. |
