Do you not have a mobile phone?

If such gadgets have finally recached your location could you not pair it to your computer?

yes I have a smartphone but rarely use it to view TDO as it's a faff and I think I'll be somewhat busy getting myself organised

He means "Use your Phone as a Hotspot" to link your Computer to the Internet.

I only use mobile phone tethering for internet access (or what's now called a mobile hotspot). My main account is Tesco(o2), and I use Three as a backup.

Anyway, for some reason I can't access this site using my o2 account at the moment, but it's OK via Three.

Don't know why that might be (I'd guess it's a security issue, because this site isn't secure), but who knows? But it's funny it works OK via Three, but not o2.

(It's happened temporarily in the past, and also with other sites I visit, but usually comes right after a day or so maximum, but it's been like this for a few days now.)

So, like Edders, if anyone's missing me at any point soon, that's probably why. (My back up account is good at times, but it's a pain at others, and very often very slow, and I can't get a signal so easily, it's patchy, blah, blah...)

But thanks for letting the forum know, Edders.

Next time I'm going to be busy cutting my toenails or cleaning the lavvy, I'll announce it in advance on here, just in case anyone misses me

The site I'm told does have an SSL certificate which should put up the padlock icon, but it just never appears.

The only thing that does appear, once a year, is the bill. :-k

Interesting

Not sure if that's the problem I'm having though - there are one or two other unsecured sites I visit, and it's not an issue. And it's not a browser issue either, because I normally use Firefox, but can't access this site with Edge either.

But it's deffo to do with by o2 web connection. I could be online for hours uninterrupted with my o2 hotspot, and it won't load TDO at all (and every other site I can visit without issue). But if I switch to my Three hotspot then immediately I can access this site as normal :?

It's happened periodically before, and I've been unable to access TDO via o2 and thought this site was down for hours on end. But, again, fine via Three.

But rebooting my phone/the o2 hotspot has normally sorted it. But I've rebooted my o2 phone several times in the last few days, and nothing changes.

And it's not absolute either. 99% of the time it won't load this site via o2, but on rare occassions it suddenly works again for a minute or two, then disappears...

So earlier this morning my Three connection wouldn't load the site either (although it's been rock steady for days, while the o2 wouldn't load TDO 99% of the time...) so basically I couldn't load the site with either of my two accounts ](*,)

But now my o2 account is loading it again, but I'd guess this will be temporary, and not even sure if I'll be able to post this by the time I've finished typing it out.

Anyway, just like Edders, if I disappear for days on end, it's because of my internet connection, not because I'm brown bread :-o

I did nudge the host and it seems the secure icon (not a padlock) is now showing, at least on my laptop.

Maybe that's sorted out your issue.

And then it disappeared. #-o

Thanks for that - unfortunately I don't think it's the source of my problem :-s

I think my problem with the Three connection yesterday was a temporary one, and I'm accessing TDO via it OK now...

But the security thing hasn't made any difference to my o2 connection...despite me seeing a padlock when visiting via both Firefox and Edge yesterday.

(I also tried accessing TDO via my phone rather than laptop tethering, and the phone uses Chrome, but still couldn't access TDO with Chrome via o2, so it doesn't seem to be a browser issue..)

But the security thing has been inconsistent since last night, depending on which laptop I'm using and which browser. (I use a wee laptop in the car, which is both the cheapest and slowest Windows laptop in history :-o )

Anyway, as I type, Firefox is marking this site insecure, while Edge is marking it secure 8-[

I'm sure Firefox was marking it as secure last night on this laptop...or maybe it was my other one...but I'm thoroughly confused now #-o

But if you're also seeing it inconsistently, then maybe there is an issue, rather than just me :?

I think I'm getting to the bottom of this.

TDO has got 2 databases that merge into one, however, they have different web addresses although anyone using or viewing them would never know that.

The old one which dates from 2003 until about late 2013 has a padlock on. I noticed that when the Captain reposted an old judgment the other day.

It's the newer database from late 2013 that hasn't the padlock, and I expect TDO admin will sort that when they can be arsed to.

All that said, TDO keeps no banking or personal details, other than an email address, so I'm not sure we are top of the hackers' list. [-o<
