A school run came out to tender. it is from Hinckley in Leics to lincoln a distance of 67 miles. it is to leave at around 06.30 in the morning and the journey is around 2 hrs.The return time is at 15.00 so unless the car is going to stay in lincoln all day it is around 8 hours driving time and 268 miles a day.
The winning tender was less than £140 per day. Even if the driver stays in Lincoln and works on UBER or something I think the price is somewhat low.

what will probably happen is the first day they do the job the driver will moan like L about how much fuel it is costing him for so little money and when they suddenly find they haven't a driver will chuck it back to the council

No, it wasn't 24x7. Staying the day would mean being out for 11 hours a day so with vehicle costs it would be way below minimum wage.

probably right. My price was more than double the winning price and I thought I had gone in a bit low.

Will anyone be surprised if that job comes back up for tender soon?
