In Milton Keynes always had a problem with rest hours of the days Plenty of taxis available
But 7:30-9am & 3-5pm School times Most Taxis are away on school contracts and over the years So many complaints from customers to the council that their is no Taxis available e.g. Central station which is 99% the School times,
Recently a Survey was done last year and it was considered that their are so many occasions when people arrive at the Taxi ranks and no Taxi available and waits of Upto 10-15mins before a taxi arrives and all times of waiting passengers has been the school times.
So now council is having meetings regarding issuing more Plates.

My question is we have just over 200 Hackneys here in Milton Keynes which is more than enough as 90% of our during the week including weekend Days is the Train station and often drivers have to wait an average of 1-2+ hours for a Job.

The waits are only at School times when most Taxis are away on School runs which are basically Private jobs

Hackney are Public hire vehicles instead of Council issuing more plates why can’t they just bring in a rule that states Hackneys can’t do School runs and have to work the Public taxi ranks?

As I would say around approximately 20 plates which are only used for School runs and Weekends

I suspect they don’t bring in a rule to ban hackneys doing school runs in the same way they don’t ban them doing airport runs I.e. it would be illegal and the drivers would quite rightly fight it.

Surely it’s better those drivers are away from the ranks allowing you to clear up.

If more plates are issued it won’t effect demand unless more drivers are licensed, as the existing number of drivers are meeting the existing demand, or is there a secret supply of drivers hiding around the corner?

In short please don’t worry, the world will not end.

maybe the clowncil should look at combining a few routes to create bus routes thus needing to tie up fewer taxis

What a fab idea, reducing the number of school runs that taxi/PH undertake.

So cos a few rail travellers moan about hacks not sitting on station ranks in the hope of a £5 fare instead of a £400/week guaranteed 39 weeks per year job the LA want to increase hack numbers?

My last school contract was worth (daily) 4 BHX trips every day, 39 weeks per year, contract for 4 years, i asked a hack on the rank why he didnt do school runs....."cos i might get an airport booking"

sucker

If I had a pound for every time this has been said to me, well I would be quite a bit richer now.

I would probably do a School Run for £2,000,000

But I would have to Re-Badge and buy a Cab.

Judging by some of the prices that get quoted by Grandad; I suspect the days of easy money are coming to an end and prices on school work will drop across the country

Until the early morning take-up doesn't turn up, or the return booking doesn't arrive.

True but not applicable to school contracts, espcially if the contractor has read the punitive measure for "non compliance" (i.e. not tuirning up)

Any conytactor who fails to comply with a contracted route may have the route taken off them
County will arrange a new contractor with no reference to the contracted price

The old contractor will be liable to pay any amount the new contractor charges above the original contracted price FOR THE WHOLE REMAINING TERM OF THE CONTRACT

County may also remove the original contractor from ALL the routes they hold and apply the above terms for the remainder of all those contracts

Imagine having 30 five year routes re-allocated at £10/day more

I am fairly sure that those terms would not be enforceable. A court would deem them unfair.

Unfortunately, the DPS (Direct Purchasing System) states this and by accepting work contractors agree to be bound by the terms.....

Obviously most wont have read them and equally, if faced with the huge bill the company would simply fold (catch me if you can)
