Our chair of licensing came to see me yesterday. He is just getting himself a taxi badge and I had a 2nd hand meter to sell him.
Very interesting conversation. He was going on about how much it is costing him to get his badge. I had to point out that the cost was down to him and his committee not asking questions when the costs were reviewed. He was responsuible for the prices. You couldn't make it up.

Licensing chair getting a badge and plate? :-o :-o

Interesting. So presumably he's no longer a licensing councillor? Slight conflict of interest if he's still in post...

He will be resigning from the chair as soon as he gets his badge. He intends to work mondat to friday days only and wants to clear £5-600 per week.He is already down by £90 per week for his lost allowance, £50 per week for his insurance plus the cost of the car, meter and topsign fitting, licensing costs etc. I think he will be in for a shock.

Very typical of what we see in councils across the length and breadth of the UK, people making decisions that do not affect them, and merely going through the motions.

The times I didn't know whether to cut my throat or slash my wrists when I attended council meetings and hearing councillors make idiot comments after idiot comments. At least twice I heard licensing councillors saying that fuel prices really shouldn't be an issue because we can claim 100% back on our tax returns. #-o

It'll be interesting to see whether his views have changed after a couple of weeks, never mind a couple of years :-o

Assuming he lasts that long, that is...

And assuming he ever states what he really thinks of it all :?

No he will not be renting a PDA off of me, we don't do that, and no he wont be earning £5-600 per week off the rank.

Well that has put the cat amongst the pigeons. I have heard that the chair of licensing has failed the knowlege test 3 times and according to our licensing policy he now has to wait 6 months before he can take the test again.
Well unless the rules get changed for him.

Yes he is local. but I expect that he didn't read up on what he would be asked in the test, it is not just about street knowlege it is also about legal knowlege disability awareness etc.
I know that one question on the test is always about the acts of parliament that we are governed by and being the chair of licensing you would think he would know this but I doubt that he does.
He probably didn't do any revision and thought it would be a walk in the park.
