I heard from another driver that a local driver (25+ years badged) failed the new SKDC driving test. The firm he worked for relicensed him for Boston as they had a Boston plated car as well as the Rutland ones. He now works doing a school run within our district on a Boston license and weekend nights doing PH work.

Our council has been saying for a year or two now that they are concerned about the drop in license numbers. the sad truth is that the more expensive it becomes with all the extra tests etc the more drivers are licensing elsewhere and working x border.

As national standards are never going to happen in my lifetime you have to wonder if maybe those that are whingeing and whining should perhaps consider that the tougher they make the testing regime the more drivers and businesses will go elsewhere as x border makes it simple to do so

It's very sad when someone fails their license application. Maybe the operator told him that they have a plan B should he fail, and thus, he didn't take it as seriously as he would have if plan B didn't exist.

Cross-border is a plague on the English taxi/PH trade, and all the time you have operators lapping it up, nothing will change until the government changes the law.

Our biggest HC base was sold to DG cars a 4 years ago, they handed control to a Walsall taxi company who promptly decided our vehicle age rules and exhorbitant fees were not to thier liking and now the bulk of cars in town ate Walsall or Wolvo plated working as PH obviously, nothing licensing can do, also this base is now linked with UBER

Councils make silly expensive rules, owners/operators find ways around the rules, councils lose out
