My mother in law is 98 years old and is in hospital on end of life care. The hospital phoned my wife last Friday to say she had hours or maybe a couple of days to live and they were making her comfortable.
Today, although she is still in the same condition but is somehow holding on, drifting in and out of consiousness, the hospital has rang to tell us that they are discharging her. they want to send her to a care home but they can't tell us yet where this would be.
Why can't they just leave her where she is to die peacfully? Why create extra stress on a dying lady?

Don't know the answer to that, Grandad, but it's an illogical and cruel world a lot of the time...

And in the circumstances difficult to think of anything to say without sounding a bit insincere, but best wishes to you and your wife.

In the old days when hospitals were run by matrons the patient would come first. In the modern day when pen pushers run them meeting targets and reducing bed blocking is all that matters .

I hope it isn't too trying a time for you and your family and you get to say your goodbyes

The hospital views your in-law as an inconvenience, which is beyond shameful.

The hospital, or the trust, will have a patient's advocate, or something like that. Please ring them with your concerns, and hopefully they will be able to offer some help.

Difficult times, condolences to all

Wifes mum died in January after 6 days "Corridor care" on about her 5th time in hospital in a few months, she wasnt attended to, left thirsty with a few others on beds in a corridor

Daughter had a call off a nurse "Hi, how was your mum last visit" (she was without a visitor at the time) "Sorry to tell you she has passed away"

Cause of death "Hospital induced pneumonia"
