because a few years ago the government decided diesels produced less co2 and got us to swap from petrol
BUT all our refineries (most of which have now closed down due to high energy costs in the uk) were built in the 60's to produce petrol plus some diesel and jet fuel. The same is true of the USA. Elsewhere especially Russia and the middle east built modern refineries with hydrocrackers which produce kerosine and diesel so we import derv and jet A1 which used to come from Russia until the Ukraine war and then from refieries in the middle east.
It is therefore in short supply and what happens when that's the case ? Importers have to engage in a bidding war to get supplies at ever in
creasing prices
