A friend of mine was recently involved in an accident with a push bike, the youth in question was riding it on the pavement at night and crossed the road at the same time as my friend reached the junction, straight into the side of his car, damaged the front door and front wing, front wing has to be replaced, he called the police and they said there was nothing they could do, but he was determined that the youth in question paid for the damage, he went to the person's house dangling the youth in question from his arm and explain to the parents he wanted paying for the damage, they did not think they should pay, now this is the interesting bit, the police officer suggested that he claimed on their household insurance which he has done, it will be interesting to see what happens next .

Many years ago, my son rode his bike into a parked, almost new, car. My household insurance cleared the claim from the car owner, and replaced the bike. All cycles should by law require insurance, though that's unlikely to happen.

I remember hearing a radio discussion a little while back and they mentioned that a new law was on the cards making the motorist liable for collisions with cyclists irrespective of whose fault it was this is something that cycling organisations have been campaigning for it might actually be a proposed EEC law

That is a frightening prospect cyclists deliberately riding into you to claim off your insurance

Yes, I remember that nonsense; I seem to recall that it was dumped though, but I may be wrong.

I think your right Dusty and to be honest it could never work as there would be more false claims than anything else, maybe for once the powers that be saw sense at the last hour.

Personally i too think it should be a legal requirement for pushbikes to have insurance, but this would be too logical
