Well Captain Who would have thought that. You had better get your boy fit again. If we can beat you on your own ground you really have got a problem. I thought there was more chance of you, Mr T and GBC stringing together a coherant sentence together between you in favour of uniting the industry than that happening. Got to go and see my boy play now in the under fifteens. I reckon his lot would have a chance of thumping Carlisle the way your lot are playing. He would certainly thump you three stooges in an intellectual debate |

How then do you propose to unite this industry then SLC. All join one union? All join different groups who then work together? Its OK to say things are wrong but its better to offer a solution. B. Lucky

Either of the suggestions you put forward are preferable to the situation we have at the moment and clearly I would be in favour of uniting in one union. The financial muscle could mean that if we got ourselves organised properly the current sharks who prey on hard working driver vis a vis insurance scum who rob us bllind every week, the dodgy proprietors especially those who hire out rust buckets and arrange dodgy, if any, insurance could be driven out. Say we had even ten per cent of the industry organised, that's thirty odd thousand, these scumbags would be falling over themselves for our business and we would only recomend the very best. God help the schiester who dumped on a union member he could well have business withdrawn from all quarters. I agree with you about master bates and his crew spouting but doing nothing is getting us nowhere. The GMB has made a serious start and I would urge all drivers to joinup. |

The amount of support a Union gets from its officials is not mirrored by the support a Union offers its membership. Officials are very much left to their own devices which is very much evident on here with the way GMB Branch Secretary carries on. Maybe its time for a complete change ................... I have little faith in the current national bodies but you never know whats round the corner and you have to get involved to effect the required changes. B. Lucky

GA has made a very valid point though. Why should drivers part with hard earned cash even though it is only £2.25 a week. Alright you will get some of the best value for money deals around on car purchase, insurance, tax specialists etc but that is not really what it is about. You might get legal representation when you are in a tight corner, as well as representation through shop stewards and branch officials but that is not really what it is all about. The influence of MP's, MEP's, councillors and the like may give significant voice in vital political arena's but that is not really what it is all about. A union is it's members and the leadership is a reflection of that membership. A strong and united union with an effective leadership at every level is dependant on the strength of membership which doesn't just depend on strength of numbers, it depends on the level of commitment and involvement of the membership. So come on GA like your motives imply you aren't on here for the mass debate. Join up an get involved |

The association I represent is affiliated to the NTA. We are lucky because we are in a Region which is undoubtable the best in the country (Region 2). I would like to see communication between the representative bodies natiaonally but I can assure you that I believe, as do the membership, that we have the backing of the best of the National groups. No, why should anyone give money to a body that is politically orientated. Your asking the right dude, GA please tell this guy how well your experience went courtesy of union involvement. And who took the kudos? and please dont lecture me or anyone one political influence, because taxis and PH is and should be distinctly non [edited by admin] political. The thoughts of you cretins trying to make a political statement through an industry where the statute is or should be enshrined in law is repulsive. In my experience, GA is far more astute than you seem to give the guy credit for. From what I have seen he has created a situation of involvement and dialogue within his area. I await the GMB wanting thanks for his efforts, yet the guy has done it with a freindly word in the ear, at minimal cost, but freindships gained, and a hell of a lot of his own dedication and commitment from him and his colleagues. By the way, myself and a few other guys were in the same hotel, a couple of years back, in Newcastle where a GMB conference was being held. I dont use the term frauds with any type of meaning. CC |

GA, the NTA is what you make of it, region 2 is the best, but region 5 is fast catching up. Personally, I dont believe in luck, you make your own luck, Gary Player did once say the more I practice...the luckier I get, now they're wise words. Communication is a fine thing, but its only of any use to those with ears. The one thing that kills this trade is personal jealousy, and petty greed, this happens in both restricted and derestricted areas. Yet I believe there is hope. There is far more that unites the trade than disunites it. CC |
