If I was to walk into a shop and ask for a tin of beans, the shopkeeper said thats ok, I will sell you a tin of beans but you must also along with the tin of beans purchase a non stick pan would that be legal the answer would be no so why is it if you want a City of York GNER rail taxi rank permit, not only do you have to buy the permit, you also have to buy/rent/have fitted a Station taxi company radio at extra cost to which you don't want any thoughts |

would that be legal the answer would be no so why is it if you want a City of York GNER rail taxi rank permit, not only do you have to buy the permit, you also have to buy/rent/have fitted a Station taxi company radio at extra cost to which you don't want any thoughts It's because the radio company have the franchise to issue station permits. You should try and convince GNER that the way forward is by way of a 20p pay barrier. If you like I will help you try and achieve that but the last time I was up at York Station it looked to me like there wasn't any place to put a pay barrier. Regards JD Regards JD |

GNER don't talk, refer you to Station Taxis, w"ank"rs, got some dole wallah running it part time as clerk, one driver willing to pay but been fobbed off for at least a month, the Turks drivers are getting very upset, it is they who will tip the cart |

For once I agree with Pete, Im informed by drivers that Station Taxis did this in the past and they had over 120 drivers on their radio circuit, when the local taxi association took them to task Station admitted it was illegal to insist on a radio being fitted and gave everyone the opportunity to hand in the radios and keep the permit. This reduced the radio circuit to around 50 cars whilst there are 116 permits so it is obvious they are losing a considerable amount of money. The rank in York station which is not council appointed is the worst performing rank in terms of waiting times in the entire city, so they should really issue more permits but as Pete says if you contact GNER they refer you back to their agents Station Taxis. What used to happen was that people would put in the radio then hand it back after a few weeks once they had got the permit but now they do it differently. You pay a weekly rent for the permit and the radio if one goes in they both go in.It will be interesting to see what happens when the franchise is up for renewal in 2008 the odds are not in favour of Station being given the contract but either a private hire company being straemlined in or a former employee being given free rein, watch this space |
