York Station permits [got myself worked up again] Something is about to happen think Thursday, one person/driver who has stood up to the greedy ba$tards is starting to make it happen, GMB union is coming up from the Smoke with legal, OFT, Monopoly commission I think also are involved, York Council don't want to know, GNER don't want to know, but the lads on the ground want to know, those who want Station ply for hire permits, and there are quite a few who want to operate in there It is well known you can earn more plying in the Station, the Station rank has more new vehicles than those who just sit on the Council ranks You can ask for a permit via the agents, Station Taxis, doesn't matter if you write in or ask, you don't get an answer, other than yes you can have a permit if you take one of our radios at near 5 grand a year, when you say, I have been an Hack for 25 years, I wouldn't know what to do with a radio, I don't want one, just a permit to ply, tough they say, you contact GNER, they say there is no problem, ask and you will get one from the agents, no chance, its being slung from pillar to pillar the reduction is to take place next renewal, 10 owners are not going to get renewal, some have upset the management, some have carved up stn taxi shareholders on jobs, some have just spoke out, that takes the total down, estimated to around say 110 out of [158 hack total fleet] its a matter of them Station taxis tightening up, to give them more work and a closed shop just if it ever happens, dereg the bloke in question who is taking this on bought a cab with permit, Its a WAV, his driver can go in the Stn, but he who owns it can't, they [Stn Taxis] don't like him some conditions are that you have to wear a tie, one driver has a doctors note to say he cannot wear a tie, [don't ask me why], they refuse a doctors note, yet some of the drivers in the station wear track suits [they don't get out of the cab] its who you know, only tonight I heard a owner driver was pulled over for a word in his shell like ear, hey you can't wear that heavy coat, its against dress code, another got pulled for wearing a woolly hat, he was wearing it cos he was cold, you can wear a head covering, but the dress code only apply for headress to be flat caps only, oh and no beards of any description, shoes must be black, no brown, no cords or logos to clothing, but you can have a GNER tie The quicker this is busted the better it will be for all, including the public off the street who queue for hours[ hours, not kidding,] they wait a long time in there for a cab, as street hacks pass buy with lights on looking for a job, in to which this could be the coldest place on earth at this time of year because of a recent survey conducted recently there is general feeling that the Council are going to issue more plates, the demand for taxis was needed at the Railway stn private rank, The Council can't seem to take in that its restricted by stn taxis to how many go in there, or don't seem bothered, Don't want to upset GNER do we, they pay big money to York council rates |

Defo a competition issue there.
But how sad is it that some hack drivers think they are better than their colleagues?
Still Che is on the case.

They have been, came today, Wednesday, the GMB people [a lady] from the Smoke, they too are not happy bunnies, a cartel is being operated they seem to think, also the cab company who are agents for the permits seem to be in the wrong with everything else they are doing, much of this is to do what I have been told comes under Company law, being passed on to Barristers, thats all for now folks, cos thats all I know they'll be quaking in their boots down at that cab office when the letters arrive on the doormat, |

I would 'guesstimate' the cost will be in the region of £70 per week, which leaves £22 per week for the station permit. It seems to me like sour grapes. CC |

I would 'guesstimate' the cost will be in the region of £70 per week, which leaves £22 per week for the station permit. It seems to me like sour grapes. CC WE means, drivers /owners that are not allowed a permit as we are not in the circle of friends of the shareholders or we dare to speak out aloud to shareholders, or we are likely to break the rules, if you have crossed any shareholder, even going back donkey years ago, your on the blacklist i do believe I am refused a permit because I gave some grief to the stn taxi clerk that I wanted to take away the GNER contract rules to read at home in my own time, I was given 10 minutes to look at the document, but not hold in my hands, with other taxi drivers talking and looking over my shoulders, the doc was opened up and was told this is the main part which gives most concern which was, you must wear a tie. thats all you need to know, sign here. I asked again if I could take the doc away, they said no, your times up, so I told em to still it up their so and so The restriction of stn permits boils down to one thing, to keep it in their own backyard as a good earner, also if dereg comes, stuff you lot on the Council ranks, we're doing ok 22 pounds per week for permit still equals £1056 per year for permit when the true cost of permit alone is around £500 The only way you get to be in the permit system is that you must have radio which totals to around 5 grand per year, thats if you pass the hurdles of being allowed in The radio system has no radio work, I will say that again, its have no work or very little, its I think a condition of GNER to operate the franchise for so many to have radios Sour Grapes, no why shouldn't we all be on an equal footing, you have got to remember that that rank isn't just for the railway travellers, the public off the street use it as well, big style If some of you care to come up here and watch what happens when a big train comes in lets say on a friday or Saturday night with all the drinking population gathering at the stn rank what the Hacs in the station have done is cut their own throats by limiting the permits, The Hacks who have permits at the stn think and know that this is a captured market, whilst the people are waiting they go and clean up other taxi ranks hoping that the captured market at the stn is still there, but with the invention of the mobile phone the punters at the stn ring PH, There are more newer vehicles on the railway ranks than on the Council ranks, you can see the divide, of course there are more earnings gained at the railway rank look at it this way, if you was a stranger in town and you needed to get home to another city, where would you go?, head to the railway stn first to see if you can get a train, no train so get a taxi at the taxi rank in the stn at the moment its us and them, its always been like this, you must understand here there is a pecking order for permits, in theory, yes in theory, but higher up the list the better you are thought of, the list goes like this Stn taxi shareholders with permit/radio Stn Taxi shareholders rental driver with permit Stn taxi shareholder without permit independant owner driver with permit Independant owner rental driver with permit independand owner without permit independand owner rental driver without permit if your at the top your guaranteed a permit |

When I was a lad, them was days u could pick up 20 punters at once at station and still be home for tea. What I cannot understand is why anyone in the whole country pays to pick up at a station, ffs we pay enough in licence fee's. The train companies would be in a mess if everyone waited outside there stations and refused to go in, there is no law that Say's you have to go into the station to wait or pick up punters. Is it not about time there was a day of action where the every cab in the country refused to go into a station to make the train companies sit up and think It seams to me we are the daft beggar's for paying them |

I forgot to add, When I take punters to Edinburgh station I don't have to pay and I some times have to wait about 10 Min's for a punter who has booked, so whats the difference, this scenario must happen every where in the country at all times of the day. |

why shouldn't we all be on an equal footing, you have got to remember that that rank isn't just for the railway travellers, the public off the street use it as well, big style I know that, you know that, now isn't it strange that certain people in this trade can't work it out? Or they turn a blind eye to a section of the cab trade screwing another section.
Even though I don't like it I can understand why elements of the cab trade aren't great fans of the PH side, but when the cab trade treat each other like leppers then they deserve to lose out.
