I got a job tonight on the rank , a wheel chair and a pusher, so I opens the boot and the passenger door

The pusher said its tokens
I said I don't take em , nowt I can do with them except sling them in the river, you need a taxi which belongs to a firm that takes tokens as per the council list

pusher, you have to take tokens, we know our rights they said, you can give them to the Council

me. no mate, its not as simple as that, and they don't go to the Council

I question the people, surely you are a bit young [late 20's thought] to be using travel tokens

girl in wheel chair throws a wobbler, and says who are you to question us, these are disable tokens not travel tokens, has anyone heard of disable tokens??????????????????????????

I said I am the driver of this vehicle, but I still can't take them, and have never heard of disable tokens

a bit of an argument broke out, but I ignored it, as 3 stn taxi wav's put their foot down passing the rank, they can take tokens I said but they don't seem to want to stop

you need to use one of those that belong to stn taxis, they take em

we are taking your number and reporting you they shouted for not takin a disable person

so there we have it folks, one step/next step from the Council call in

lucky enough stood at the rank, [as I was the only hack] was a witness who viewed it all, the gentleman who is a coach driver witnessed the whole scene and saw that they was making me look like a c"**t to which looked like a refusal,. he gave me his contact details, most grateful

Travel tokens in Lincoln, are issued to the over sixties, and to anyone with disabilities, who would be unable to use public transport, as an alternative to free bus passes. The hackney trade, and PH, and the Rail companies accept them in lieu of cash. We are rarely asked to accept tokens.

Some Hackney drivers refuse to accept travel tokens.

Recently, I was second cab on the main (restricted use) rank when a gentleman who had been refused by the front cab, (I'ts a COL that it is front cab only) asked me if I accepted tokens. I said I did, and asked him where he wanted to go to. He asked me to take him to Lucy Tower Street, a £3:00 fare. I exchanged his £3:00 of tokens for cash, and put him in the front Cab. Everyone was happy, except for the cab driver who hoped he had passed on his chitter to me.

I accept travel tokens without a problem, but I think you may have a problem Pete, if the wheelchair user does complain. Who is your licensing office more likely to believe? With the DDA and all, despite any evidence to the contrary, you may, (though I sincerely hope not,) be in bother.

There is a simple solution to the hassle of rarely offered travel tokens.

If one driver or operator exchanges them for cash, with other drivers, you don't have that £3:00 in tokens rattling about in your ashtray for months on end. That collector of tokens can then take them periodically into the council offices when he goes in to pay his rates.

Then ask your council where in your/their rule book it says you must take them.

Clearly the punters should have rank for a cab, I suspect they knew that but just wanted to give you a bit of grief.

Well if national transport tokens didn't rip taxi firms off the way they do i'm sure more would take them but the simple fact is that you only get about 92% of the face value of the coins back on average ! It just isn't worth it they always claim that you are "short" its amazing how about 5 to 10 quids worth always go missing from every package you send plus they are now charging commission all to boost the profits for the shareholders in stagecoach plc the parent company

Down here in SKDC the council issues Vouchers which you used to be able to take to the council offices and exchange for cash. Now you have to hand them in and wait a week for your cheque or bacs transfer the result is that now 60% of local taxis don't take those now either

Apologies for the rant but I HATE NTT there is no reasoning with them they do treat taxi operators the same way as the d*gsh*t on their shoes

The council accepts no responsibility for operators refusing to accept national transport tokens. Please check with the driver before beginning your journey

This is from the Council website so I would think that pete has nothing to worry about, Station Taxi's do offer a refund service the driver has to deposit tokens at the office (minimum£10) and then wait four weeks to be re imbursed.
